When asking the doctor to fill out FMLA paperwork so that I could care for my severely disabled son. The doctor showed no understanding of my child's situation and no compassion for what we were going through. He wrote that I would need to take off to the three times a month to take my son to doctor's appointments. When I pointed out that sometimes we had up to nine appointments in a single week. He changed it to saying that I might need to go to doctor's appointments three times a week. He also said that I could have no FMLA time to help care for my severely disabled son at home. When I pointed out that he needed 24/7 care his response that was if he needed that kind of care, I should hire a full-time nurse to take care of him and not take care of him myself. I am perfectly capable of taking care of my son myself and certainly do not need the added expense of hiring. A nurse on top of all of the medical bills we have. His complete, lack of compassion for the situation, as well as… feeling that he should be the one to decide who cares for my child, even while admitting the medical necessity is completely unprofessional. Unprofessional. In the end he flatly refused to fill out the paperwork and forced me to go to another doctor.
