Dr. Scott Richard Elkin, DO

Dr. Elkin and his PA, Katie Martin, do not care about their customers (yes I said customers not patients). My first appointment (which was booked a month out) was never put into their calendar system. These things happen, so I booked another appointment (booked a month out again). One day prior to my appointment, a front desk clerk emailed to let me know Katie would be out of the office. She didn’t apologize and said the next available appointment is available next month. Ok fine, it happens, I need medication and it’s hard to find psychiatrists in Austin so I took the appointment. First appointment: Katie was 20 minutes late to my appointment. She was unfriendly and had horrible bedside manner (eating during the appointment, unfriendly, not welcoming). Furthermore, her clinical skills were poor (I am also in the psychology field) and she did not investigate my family history thoroughly or perform a risk assessment for my specific symptoms. Whatever, I just need a prescription for… an antidepressant, I’ll deal with it. Second appointment: AGAIN one day before my appointment, the front desk sends me an email (NOT a phone call) to let me know Katie will be out of the office. She tells me that her next appointment is a month from now unapologetically. Best practice for administering SSRIs means that a doctor must check for changes in symptoms and side effects 4 weeks after the new prescription. Guess this clinic doesn’t care about best practice for medication! I’m astonished that a practice that is supposed to care about mental health treats their patients so poorly. This practice is unethical and their bedside manner is atrocious. Find someone else. You’ll probably get better quality care there too.

Find another doctor!

I have seen several different doctors and a psychiatrist for anxiety and have went on a roller coaster for 2 and a half years searching for a psychiatrist that I find trustworthy, willing to spend plenty of time communicating with you, and not only being extremly knowledgable but also being so great at explaining things to me at a level that I can understand, even when I'm anxious and my racing thoughts make it difficult to understand much of anything. I believe that he really cares and really wants to help people. I am very appreciative and grateful for a person like himself.

I have been a patient of Dr. Elkin"s for several years. Even when I have changed insurance policies and he was no longer a covered provider, he has managed to continue to treat me. I have a chronic illness and have had for over 20 years. Before that time, depression was a word that I didn't fully understand. I got quite familiar with it. Before finding Dr. Elkin, I seemed to be on the "musical chairs" psychiatrist plan. Every year or two, I had to change Drs. Pre- Dr. E, I was on a total of 4 psych RXs. Over the years, that has decreased to two. Around a year ago, I suddenly was diagnosed with cancer. Another setback, but Dr. E has helped immensely. No RX changes or additions, simply talking through my problems. currently is remission. Dr. E usually closes each session by asking whether we have covered everything the I have needed to cover. I almost always say yes, but if not. I bring it up.

I would recommend Dr.Scott Elkin to anyone who needs help for their children. Dr. Elkin has been kind and compassionate towards my child while giving her and the family advice and skills that we can use to move our child forward. We have always been able to make an appointment without a problem, and we never have to wait long. The office staff is professional and efficient. My thanks to Dr. Elkin, we are a much happier family.

Dr. Elkin saved my life and dramatically improved my childrens' lives as well. He takes the time to work through my issues despite being paid only to dispense my med.s. (Insurance being what it is today.)I am a long time and very happy patient.

He will give you any medication you want...just tell him you have issues and he will write it out....makes patients wait while he naps....doesn't remember your stuff and nicely eats while you talk...very unprofessional is all I am saying
