Dr. Scott Douglas Masson, DO

After my first visit with Scott Masson I went to him because my pain flared up dramatically overnight. I was working on getting an appointment at a specialty clinic at Mass General but they were booked up and I needed help managing the tremendous pain and nausea until then. Masson knew that I was currently on opiod pain therapy via an intrathecal pain pump. Instead of helping me with my pain he asked if I’d ever gone through opiod withdrawal. I was currently receiving small amounts of prescribed opiods and had never before in my life been on long term opiods, so of course I was not experiencing withdrawal. I asked him to check the pain pump to ensure it hadn’t malfunctioned. He said the pump was fine but never even looked at it. He only agreed to give me a referral for my appointment with the specialty Neurogastroenterology appointment I was seeking. He sent me away abruptly telling me to go to a GI doctor. I’d seen at least 8 already with no diagnosis, which is the reason I finally… needed pain management. Dr. Masson never gave me the referral, and sent me a letter cancelling his care of me. His behavior was bizarre as well as cruel. I had no choice but to go to the ER, but they didn’t understand my abdominal pain and gave me opiods that didn’t help with the pain. Dr. Masson neglected me, then wasted a lot of time and money sending me to the ER, and in the end I was still in a lot of pain. I have never given him a reason to question my honesty and integrity. If he thought I was in opiod withdrawal he clearly didn’t familiarize himself with my medical records. Please avoid this doctor, he’s supposed to manage pain but instead he creates and maintains it.
