Dr. Scott James Petit, MD

I was referred to Dr Petit, or Dr PT as they call him, for a VATS lung biopsy. First I would like to note that the surgeons in my town still do a more invasive open lung biopsy (without using the VATS, which is much less invasive), so if they recommend an open lung biopsy for you, be sure to look into this procedure instead. Dr. PT is upfront about everything. He told me that lung procedures are painful (due to the many nerve endings in that area.) He was upfront about risks and does not sugar coat your surgery. While there was a short period of pain with my procedure immediately afterwards, the nurses told me that he did several newer procedures to minimize patient pain. My pain was minimal. My incisions look great. When I left Richland Heart Hospital, I felt better than when I went in! You don't see him a lot in the hospital, but the nurses told me that he monitored my vitals and adjusted meds. I have 100% confidence in Dr. PT and if I ever need surgery again, he will be my… surgeon!

Dr. Petit was on emergency standby as I was being transferred from another hospital for emergency Aortic Dissection repair surgery to save my life. The moment they rolled me out of the ambulance and I saw Dr. PT ( as he is called) I knew I was going to be ok. He told me there was only a 10% survival rate for my type of issue but I told him to save me and I would do the rest! That was 3 weeks ago today and I thank God and Dr. PT every day for being there for me. If anyone asks I would so HIGHLY recommend Dr. PT and the very caring staff at Palmetto Health Heart Hospital without giving it a second thought.....I owe them my life!
