Dr. Scott Arthur Shapiro, MD

I've had two previous back surgeries & I'm worse now then before. I was a child at the time & was so gullible I believed everything he said needed to be done. I'm 21 now & suffer every second of everyday. I still have the herniated disc and two pinched nerves he was so suppose to fix, as well as scar tissue, nerve damage, arthritis, scoliosis, and spinal stenosis. His bedside manners were absolutely awful and had no respect. After my second surgery I woke up feeling paralyzed & just wanted answers. Shapiro decided to leave for vacation before I even woke up from sedation. The nurse who was rude and neglected my care as well sent in two doctors I've never seen before to tell me I had nerve damage from the surgery & it'd take two years to heal. Didn't mention that it may never grow back. Also, didn't give me any of my medicine i was suppose to go home with. That's when my guardian called his office to get my medicines & found out he was on vacation. I was so upset and furious I didn't go… to my follow up appointment & therefore I got kicked out of being his patient. Now, 5 years later I can't see any other surgeon in Goodman brain and spine because their all colleagues and won't go up against Shapiro. Their only offering me one solution now which is the fusion & I refuse with my age. I was also told by a therapist that if I would of been sent to physical therapy first, I may not even of had to have those surgeries in the first place. I'm not the type to post reviews but I'm still struggling everyday because of the choices he made for me & I hope to save another innocent child or adult from a lifetime of pain and misery.

I was in pain do to my lower back, bulging disc. Had pt, shots, after shots. Finally my PT recommend I see a surgeon. My pain management doctor referred me to Dr. Shapiro. I went from not being able to walk more then a minute, can’t sit and my sleeping was sitting up in bed with pillows under my knees and strong pain pill would get me 2 hours of sleep. After surgery of shaving my disc about 8 hours later I was wearing the nurses out, all I wanted to do was walk. This was in 2009 and today I will stand at work and walk as much as I want. I can’t believe I suffered for so long...when there was this wonderful precious doctor (Dr. Shapiro) that’s, in my mind performs miracles. Thank you, God Bless you. Angie Stubblefield

After being told about the tumor and surgery was needed, Dr Shapiro told us that he had done this procedure x amount of times and my family member would be fine but it did not end that way. We were never really told the complete truth about the situation from the very beginning. Dr Shapiro would not set up a direct meeting to meet with us, We had to track him down in the hallway where he discussed the family issue while people walked back and fourth and on the 2nd meeting with him he talked with us from my family member's room where she could hear everything. He became rude and even used profanity at us as he walked out of the room. His bedside manners are horrible and he does not like to be questioned. He may be a good surgeon to some but there is another side that is not very pleasant at all. It was the worse treatment I had ever seen in my life. No passion or remorse at all. We have to live with the results of this for the rest of our lives. You may want to make sure he is not… going on vacation if surgery is scheduled. We can live with whatever God's will. NOBODY is perfect. I have and will continue to pray that no other family has to endure what my family has.
