Dr. Seema Singhal, MD

I was very impressed with Dr. Singhal the first time I met her. She was very confident, had a great bedside manner and seemed very knowledgeable and compassionate. My husband chose her because she had good reviews. It took him 4 weeks to get an appointment. She started treatment immediately and recommended a stem cell transplant. My husband ended up hospitalized for 13 days due to appendicitis and I wanted him transferred to Northwestern so his cancer could be cared for as well. No one from Singhals office would return my numerous calls. I went to a caseworker and was told that Singhal and Nurse Marcia “did not think it was necessary to talk to me as they had been in touch with my husband”. They didn’t even know why I was calling nor did they bother to find out. The day of my husband’s transplant, Dr. Singhal informed him she would not be by to check on him because she didn’t have enough time to check on all her patients. She also surprised both of us by casually talking about his… second transplant before he had his first. She had never mentioned this to him before when discussing the course of treatment. His transplant did not work. He began seeking second opinions and travelling the country to get on lists for trials. During one of his visits a Dr. told him he had the most aggressive form of multiple myeloma. Dr. Singhal failed to ever mention this to him. We began seeing a Dr. at University of Chicago that came highly recommended from a Dr. at Fred Hutch in Seattle. He agreed to consult with Dr. Singhal on my husbands treatment. When traditional chemos, treatments, etc. failed and remaining options were limited, Dr. Singhal told my husband she thought it was best for him to start seeing the Dr. at UC as there was nothing she could do for him that he couldn’t and because she was leaving for vacation for 3 weeks anyway. She was very cold and nonchalant as she told him this (via speakerphone). I heard the whole conversation and was appalled by her giving up on him. It was a blessing in disguise as my husband received TOP NOTCH treatment from the Dr.’s and staff at University of Chicago. He found a Dr. to fight for him and while he was hospitalized for months, his Dr. MADE THE TIME to check in on him almost daily. He even called me personally several times to discuss my husband and was always very prompt to return my calls. I only mention this because I had not realized how bad and impersonal Dr. Singhal was until I saw firsthand what a GREAT Dr. and GREAT treatment truly was.

Dr. Singhal has a calming smile and verbal cadence that helps a patient experiencing high anxiety.

Dr. Singhal is compassionate, extremely knowledgeable, kind and by far one of the best experts in multiple myeloma. My Mother has had MM for 7 years and Dr. Singhal has overseen every aspect of her care with attention to detail and kindness. We trust her 100%. She listens to all concerns and addresses issues quickly leaving no stone unturned. Joseph, the MM nurse, is helpful as well and easy to contact in times of crisis. I would recommend Dr. Singhal to anyone who wants to feel confident and secure with their care.

Dr. Singhal is a excellent specialist in the field of MM. She is knowledgeable about the latest treatment and does research on the newest treatment options. Along with her husband (Dr.Jayesh Metah-Head of the Stem Cell Transplant Dept.) they make an unbelievable team! This is a doctor that really cares about her patients and makes sure she is giving them the options to have the "best quality of life". She is very aggressive at treating the disease, but always balances with the quality of life.Her Physician Assistant is extremely knowledgeable, caring and easy to reach by phone. I highly recommend visiting the Robert Lurie cancer center and considering getting a second opinion by Dr. Singhal. It may give you the fighting chance that everyone deserves.This is a top notch cancer center and also is very welcoming.
