Today I was fondly remembering my childhood pediatrician, Dr. Sera, and longing to hear his bouncing, accented voice. I hear it clearly in my head with the taste of tongue depressors and the complex, clean scent of the office.I don't associate Dr. Sera with sickness and needles, I associate him with comfort and understanding. I am grateful that my first life impressions of "doctor" are are so amazingly good.He used to write us prescriptions for ice cream. On his prescription pad. Which you would then take to the pharmacy where it was good for any of the frozen treats well-stocked in the cooler next to the door. This simple device had a wondrous effect.Dr. Sera is the best doctor in the world. That statement may or may not be true, but it feels true to me -- and it's what you want your kids to think about their doctor, right?
