Dr. Serge Jean, MD

I had been feeling tried, experiencing pain, swelling and inflammation in my throat neck area for several months. My regular doctor recommended I see an ENT doctor. I saw Dr Serge and he ordered a CT scan, which apparently didn’t show any abnormalities. While CT scans are excellent for anatomy, they cannot determine if one is having issues with an overactive or underactive thyroid which tends to usually show up in blood work, something Dr Serge didn’t do. During the visit he told me there was nothing wrong with me. I tried asking him if maybe I needed to see an endocrinologist because I felt something was off with me and it wasn’t normal. He cut me off telling me I was overacting and didn’t need to see anyone because the scan had not shown anything. He kept interrupting me telling me that I was being a hypochondriac, dismissing anything I had to say. Apart from not allowing me to ask questions he seemed to be in a hurry to leave the room. Months passed by and I continued with the… same issues, so I spoke to my regular doctor again, and she recommended that I do see an endocrinologist, something I tried to bring up with Dr Serge. I saw the endocrinologist who ordered some tests along with blood work. The tests showed that I was and had been having thyroid issues and for quite some time. Eventually I had thyroid surgery where they removed two parathyroid glands, as one was enlarged and the other had a tumor. Apparently, Dr Serge could have helped with this issue sooner, but instead he chose to behave uncaringly. Be careful if you should have or need or have to see this doctor, the way he behaves in my opinion is not very professional apart from behaving arrogantly and disrespectfully towards his patients. This is not the way a doctor should behave towards anyone.

I’ve seen Dr. Jean several times over the past year regarding an injury that culminated in a corrective surgery. He is very competent and teaches you about your course of treatment, procedures, and anatomy. Dr. Jean even spent 20 minutes with me just teaching me about nasal structure and how the nose works. He is swift to answer questions and truly seeks for you to understand what his course of treatment is, which was both refreshing and comforting to me. My healing is going well and he is an incredible surgeon with deep care for his patients. He will go to great lengths to ensure you are happy with your results.

Dr Jean is a great Dr. The staff is usually pretty great too.. Dr spends time with you and answers all your questions.. I do get why some think he is arrogant or not friendly but we all are some times.. He is a very smart man and that is important I would not be able to handle all he does in a patient way .. I would much rather have a brilliant Dr than a Dr that acts like he or she is my "buddy"

It is important for a doctor to listen to your needs. This doctor didn't seem to be interested in anything I had to say. Showed no concerns or understanding even after some questions I still had and disregarded them. He only seemed interested in what he wanted to say. He kept cutting me off.

If you have a problem this is the doctor to go see.

I think he ordered the correct tests but I had great difficulty trying to tell him things because he talked over me. I left the office without being satisfied. About a week ago, I called the office with a question and I have yet to receive a reply.

Super large ego, will not answer questions or look at other doctors notes in same Watson Clinic group. Talks over you and was demeaning to both my 12 year old son and I (mother). Has a big chip on his shoulder, don't trust him to do a good job with my son who suffers from severe asthma and has chronic ear infections. Tried to see him a couple of times, thought maybe he was having a bad day...nope, just who he is.

He arrive >45 min late, condescending attitude, rushing, scope very fast back of my throat (were I had no problem) and prescribed CAT scan ($$$) and possible biopsy ($$$) for a 'discoloration that did not know what it was". Got second opinion with much better ENG, very thorough (took 20 min with the scope, did not tell about my bad experience with Dr. J). All normal. Make your own conclusions, and get someone else or a second opinion. He might be an excellent surgeon but as a diagnostician I would not trust his opinion...to prone for the knife.

Dr Jean operated on my parotid gland tumor 5 years ago he did an awesome job . We love this doctor would go back to him if needed I highly recommend him and his skills

I read mixed reviews about him. Some people raved and others hated him. He knocked before entering with a smile and introduced himself. He was professional, straight to the point, wasted no time and asked direct questions. I had no trouble understanding him. His accent was very mild and he spoke clearly. Heâ??s black, yes and I think some of the negative reviews I read prior to my visit reflect the views of racist, typical Polk County types, which I find to be common around here and very unfortunate, as I did not experience any of the negative qualities that I read about. I'm a white, upper-middle class female, who's parents raised me better than that, with an education and more importantly, an open mind. When he went to shake my hand, he withdrew for a second and apologized and said, â??Iâ??m sorry, I still have a little alcohol on my hands.â?? Clearly talking about the hand sanitizer. I put my hand right out there, said, â??Thatâ??s okay.â?? and we exchanged a good hand shake. Then I… said, â??Why? Have you been drinking?â?? He got my stupid joke right away. He gave me half a laugh and said, â??No. I never touch the stuff.â?? I told him I donâ??t even like the taste of it anyway." and then we got right down to business. You can tell that heâ??s focused on what he needs to know, so heâ??s used to steering the conversation. Once he asks a question, though, he allows you to answer in full, so I felt as though he listened to what I had to say. Heâ??s efficient, so he doesnâ??t dilly dally and heâ??s not a conversationalist, so to speak. I didnâ??t have a problem with that. I was there for a reason and he was there to get to the bottom of the issue, which he did, in a short period of time and then he said that he was sending the nurse in, to cover some other scheduling questions for a future procedure. He then thanked me for coming inâ?¦ and excused himself. He is not the type to spend extra time chit chatting. He may not be overly warm and friendly, but he is professional and efficient and good at what he does. In my research of him, as I research all health professionals before setting an appointment, I learned that he attended Harvard Medical School. From what I understand, they're not in the habit of admitting underachievers. I am not sorry that I followed through with allowing Dr. Jean to care for me. I chose him for his knowledge and expertise in his field, not for a Facebook buddy.
