Dr. Serhan Karvar, MD

I COMPLETELY agree with the other one star review on here. I saw Dr. Karvar at the beginning of 2021 and when I tell you I am still heated about how it all went down. I had a total of 2 appointments with him. Both of which were less than 5 minutes. I had been struggling to eat/ keep anything down for YEARS. I had rashes, stomach pains, constipation, diarrhea, burping, bloating, insane swelling in face, deadly gas but he wouldn't know any of that because he didn't even care to ask what my symptoms were he just ordered labs and sent me on my way. I came back for my second appointment to the same treatment where he said you're good your labs are normal now pay 8,000 dollars and live your life. To top it all off he told me my problems would be solved by not DRINKING THROUGH A STRAW. Completely frustrated and had almost completely given up I did an at home test that showed I had an extreme reaction to gluten, wheat, and spelt. Sadly, I am still recovering from the hefty bill from the GI to… go to a new doctor for further investigation of what could actually be wrong. After this visit I learned the hard way to research doctors before your visit and not waste your time or money.

I thought Dr Karvar was a through doctor and cured with what I had been suffering with for five year. I was close to surgery. He was kind and informative. I hope he is still at MUSC. He will forever be my gastroenterologist. I have recommended him many times. His recommendation stopped my diverticulitis and given me my life back. Thank you Dr. Karvar. Leona Brewer

Dr. Karvar somewhat cares about you as a patient but he is unwilling to listen to the patient, go through patient history, examine symptoms or do anything past the firsts 15 seconds where he looks at you and decides what's wrong. In my opinion that doesn't make a good doctor. He sees what he wants to see even if it's not the whole picture. This is very harmful to the patient as he then tries a treatment plan based off of his misguided assumptions and not the actual problem.
