Dr. Seth Gavin Derman, MD

I went to him for 2 years trying to conceive and he just did the standard process never once suggesting Ivf treatment even though we had tried fir 2 years. His advice was Ivf is too invasive and I wouldn’t be able to do it. His bedside approach was also condescending and careless. I went to another practice and they immediately started the Ivf treatment and I conceived on the first try! I would say avoid this doctor at all costs!!

I was with Dr. Derman about a year. I went through pills, shots, and finally IVF. Each time I met with him in a consuls, he never rushed & was thorough and answered all questions. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything to you. When cycling, you come to his office between 6-9, and it's first come, first serve. This worked out with work because I was able to get to work on time (if I hurried). I always got there for 6 so I would be first when he arrived around 6:45-7ish. I'd always be out of the office by 7:10. His staff was fantastic and friendly. I miss all of them, but glad to have my early morning with a baby now rather then sitting in doctor's office. I couldn't be more thankful for him and his staff. I would highly recommend.

We saw Dr. Derman for 3 IUIs, 3 IVFs and I donor egg IVF. All failed. His IVF success rates are average, but according to the SART DATA his donor egg success rate over the last 3 years is only 17%. That's unbelievably low, considering most clinics experienced in donor egg protocols have 60-70% success rates. He led us to believe that donor egg was the answer, but he clearly lacks the ability to coordinate patient - donor cycles, and to manage patients who aren't being stimulated. His staff actually forgot that my cycle was beginning! I had to call to remind them, which may have been the source of the disynchrony. We can only blame ourselves for trusting him, as the SART data speaks for itself. Please please do not make the mistake we did. Follow the SART data and consider instead RMA, who have excellent success in all advanced techniques. Finally, on the day I found out my cycle last failed, I called to schedule a follow up consult. I was offered an appointed over a month… away. After I complained to his office manager about the timing, she curtly hung up on me....on the very day I found out that my chances to have a baby were squandered by this very clinic. This clinic is completely bereft of empathy, organization and technical skill.

We have been trying for kids for last 2 years and we met Dr. Derman. He performed all the necessary diagnosis/tests and always listens to your issues very patiently. We got pregnant with the first IUI. I highly recommend the doctor for any couple with infertility issues.

I went to see the doctor after a few miscarriages. We thought we would never have a baby and we really did not want to see a fertility doctor, but we gave in and went. He and his staff were very attentive and caring. He wasted no time getting to the bottom of our problem and only took a few months till we got pregnant, and now we have a beautiful baby. Thank you so much.

I had a very good experience at Dr. Derman's office. Sam who sets up his appointments called me back right away. She got me an appointment in a couple of weeks, but called me back sooner when there was a cancellation. The doctor was very nice and thorough and we got pregnant within a few months. The nurses were wonderful too. I would recommend this doctor to anyone.

As echoed by previous comments, my attempts to get an appointment took weeks. After several emails and calls, I was finally able to reach Melissa to schedule one (apparently, she is the only one who can do this). After meeting with Dr. Derman, the staff failed to follow up and provided confusing instructions as to what my next steps were. I also felt rushed to complete the conception process, even though I had made clear that I had no intention of actually TTC for another couple months - I just wanted an updated review and check up on my same infertility condition which I had had for many years now. I felt excessive, expensive testing was pushed upon me (again, to confirm a condition I already knew I had and to rule out other conditions I already knew I didn't have based upon my previous infertility treatments needed to conceive my 2nd child). I won't go back.

Dr Derman and Hina are professional and seem to be compassionate. Our biggest complaint with their office is how they handle scheduling tests and procedures like the all important bloodwork and ultrasound. Instead of actually scheduling times, they tell you to show up between 6 and 9 am. So you show up as early as possible, and find that at 5:45 am, you are the third or fourth person standing in line outside the office. At 6am, the receptionist unlocks the door and you put your name on a list. Then you wait, and wait and wait. Somewhere around 6:45, you start to see employees (nurses, lab techs, etc) in their scrubs start walking through the front door with their coffees and bagels. Meanwhile you are still sitting there in the waiting room. Sometime between 7:00 and 7:15, a nurse will call the first person off the list. If you were third or fourth, don't expect to be called until 7:45 or 8:00. This is the most ridiculous way to handle patients that I have ever seen in a… doctor's office. For a situation where you are trying to reduce as much stress as possible from your life, this method of dealing with patients can only escalate your stress levels. PLEASE JUST SCHEDULE PEOPLE AND SEE THEM WHEN THEY ARE SCHEDULED. Our other complaint is that when you call to set up an appointment for a consult (where they actually schedule you) you are told that you have to talk to the benefits coordinator. However you never actually get to talk to this person. Instead you have to leave a voicemail. Three days later you call back to find out why they never returned your call. We have actually been dealing with this many times over the past months. This does not give the patient confidence that once the IVF cycle has started, you will be able to schedule all the consults and procedures you need to at the time it needs to happen.

Dr. Derman was very thorough in explaining things and always returned my calls promptly. We was very caring and he and his staff helped guide us physically and emotionally every step of the way.
