Dr. Seth David Fielding, MD

Guys seriously - only use him for a quick fix he isnt in the biz to help ppl. If you need a mental health Doctor this isnt the one.

He came highly recommended and when I called I left a VM and within 15 min he called back. He asked me 'What I was looking for' and I started to describe my current anxiety and sleeping issues and he abruptly cut me off saying 'I don't feel comfortable treating anxiety'. With that said I thanked him and hung-up. I understand psychiatrists are not therapists and I didn't mean to waste his time but this guy obviously just listens to keywords or shuts you off. Straight shooter to say the least but he is definitely not one of those 'compassionate' doctors unless you say the magic words I guess..

This doctor was extremely rude on the phone he had no concerns about why I called.. all he cared for was where did I get his number from. NASTY AND RUDE!!

Never in my life have I had a medical professional be so rude to me and have such a lack of compassion. I asked a simple question about which Duane Reade he called my meds into (there are 2 within 2 blocks of my apt) and he then acted like I had asked him to climb Mount Everest and huffed and puffed and told me what I was asking “MADE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE” (which to me - makes no sense....) and angrily spent 7 seconds finding the pharmacy he sent it to. If you obviously don’t like people, maybe don’t become a DOCTOR. I just canceled my appointment and found someone new, with good reviews, who is more expensive unfortunately - but I’d rather pay more to be treated like a human than go back to Dr. Fielding.

Dr. Fielding really cared about my concerns and spent a lot of time with me. He really is a great doctor.

Met Dr. Fielding when for the first time I sought professional help for severe depression over thirty years ago. I left my initial consultation with high hopes that he would help me, and he did - - at first. Years later, following a hospitalization when I was pressured to change physicians, I returned to his care and found he had changed quite radically over the years. But sticking with familiarity has kept me from making a break and I remain his patient, even knowing it is time to say goodbye. The man has lost his sense of compassion and humanity, but yes, he does dispense the drugs his patients need to get through another day, and I suppose that is the best excuse I can offer for sticking with him. But please beware, if you are considering a first consultation, think two and three times about looking elsewhere - - especially if you are in a truly fragile state. I pray that he retires before he does anyone real harm.

Tough but fair

The personality of someone who should not be with other people… Has no interest except in writing prescriptions… Has no interest in your medical background. A very unpleasant person… The office is beyond messy…

Dr. Fielding is a Psychiatrist, not a Therapist/Psychologist. That said, is he slightly abrasive? Yes. Is it what our mental health world needs? Yes! He is a no-fuss doctor who knows his stuff and doesn't want your excuses. He wants your willingness to battle whatever mental health issue you're facing. But you have to help yourself before he helps you. Additional, for the reviews calling him a "doc in a box"... look, New Yorkers live chaos 24 hours a day and Dr. Fielding doesn't add to that. Again, no fuss! Call him, directly, make an appointment, be there on time, have your copay in cash, know your needs & pharmacy, smile, say thank you, and ask if he wants the next person to come in after you. This ^^^ tip is how it will be AFTER the first appointment. The first one he does spend quite a bit of time with you. Either way, the reviews I read are based on a pansies crying because Dr. Fielding is too black & white and our society stirs grey. Stop crying, take his advice,… and you soon realize he is the normal one in this city!

Maybe he doesn't tell you exactly what you want to hear. Maybe you are used to your therapist agreeing with all of your thoughts. Maybe you need a reality check. He's upfront, honest, and opinionated, which I respect. Yes, his office is a bit cluttered, but he will find your file in under 5 seconds. If you want your hand held, maybe he's not for you. If you are straight up with him, he will do what he's there to do - write a prescription. He is a psychiatrist. Pay a psychologist to listen to your problems for an hour(that is pretty standard).
