Dr. Seth P. Harlow, MD

I was referred to Dr. Harlow and told by many people how outstanding his surgical capabilities were. He even assured me that he was capable of doing this surgery when asked directly. He was not. There were many complications during the surgery that were identifable before the surgery. There were also complications after the surgery that he brushed off.  He left a healthy professional in her 20s disfigured with a scar that was double the size that it had to be, in a more disfiguring location than it had to be, according to other surgeons. He did not recommend necessary physical therapy following the surgery, complicating the iatrogenic effects of his surgery. When the potentially curable cancer continued to grow after surgery, he was cagey when asked questions related to its progress.  It was at another hospital that I found out that the surgery was more invasive than necessary. The remediation of the damages from surgery has been an expensive, long, and painful process that will… never get me back to the level of health I would have had with a different surgeon.  Through this process, I also discovered that Vermont does not have strong legal protections for cancer patients. The experience with Dr. Harlow would have been grounds for a malpractice lawsuit, as evidenced by precedent in numerous surrounding states. If I could go back, I would have surgery outside of Vermont, in a state that affords higher quality treatment for cancer patients, no matter the cost. The massive amount of scar tissue from the surgery continues to cause pain and mobility issues, which could have been eliminated/remediated with a timely referral to physical therapy by Dr. Harlow. I also recently found out that one of my closest friends was also left unnecessarily disfigured by Dr. Harlow. After his surgery, he stuck with Dr. Harlow's treatment and his health slowly declined. By the time he transferred his care to Boston, it was too late. He left behind a wife and young daughter when he passed away at 35.

He removed my thyroid. The scar was much bigger and more disfiguring to a woman in her 20s than it had to be, according to several other surgeons.

A healthy as can be 75 year old man's life was lost because if this doctor. An unnecessary surgery was preformed on my grandfather which led him to have a major stroke, which left him brain dead, he then passed away a week after his stroke. I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone.

I've used Dr Harlow for the last 5 years. I find him to be very patient, very caring, takes the time to inform me of my options and makes sure I understand what he has to say. FAHC in VT is very lucky to have him! One of the best bedside manners.

I found Dr. Harlow to be professional, highly skilled, caring, and honest in sharing information. I greatly appreciate his willingness to explain his decisions regarding care. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
