Dr. Shahla Amjad Kaukab, MD

my brother and i have been a patient of dr. kaukab for over 4 years and I always thought she was great up until our final visit. we went in for a routine visit and my brother also had a problem with his ear and had been benched by his coaches because of the issues it was causing; i.e. extreme nausea, vertigo, fevers, etc... he has had ongoing issues with it since we first came into her care and she insisted it was allergies and gave him Claritin and flintstones vitamins to fix it. fast forward to now, and he has been diagnosed with mastoiditis, and had multiple infections from it travel to the lining of his brain including staf and meningitis. he has spent over a week in Vanderbilt hospital having multiple reconstructive surgeries to repair his ear and bone that the infections ate through. but that isn't the only information we got that day. she also informed us that she did not review an mri that I had done over a year and a half ago and gave me the news that I had a chiari… malformation and needed to see a neurosurgeon asap to plan surgery. there is absolutely no excuse for her neglect to take proper care of her patients. even after all of this, she did not contact us to inform us of blood work results until over a week later and still insisted that my brothers problem was allergies even after we had his diagnosis and infectious disease control contacted her. we informed her that we would be by soon to collect our medical records and she is withholding them and demanding that we pay for them. after telling us this, she promptly hung up. she is one of the most unprofessional doctors I have ever met. total quack.

Dr. Shahla Kaukab is just simply amazing! My son Brayden has been seeing her for years, and she can tell what is wrong before I can even tell her. She is very thorough, friendly, great bedside manners, and a fantastic Dr. She has definitely done her homework and knows what she is doing. I wish she would see adult patients, I would go to her if I could, but at least my son can see her til his 22nd birthday. And he will!!! I have never had to wait long at all, and she makes sure that her staff is on the ball, and does not put up with nonsense. I normally don't write reviews, but she really deserves it. Great, intelligent Dr. I would recommend anyone to see her. She knows what she is doing! Thank you. Sherri Grahler and Brayden Scott.

I love Dr.Kaukab she really takes the time needed to get to know her clients and diagnosis the accurately.

She has a strong opinion and personality which was a little much to take sometimes for a new mom. My son had chronic ear infections and one time he was very sick. After waiting an hour she finally came in and he was tired and in pain so he was crying. She started doing lots of unnecessary tests saying no child should scream like that. She even told me that he needed a spinal tap because she was unsure and thought he had some crazy disease. Come to find out all her crazy tests were charged to insurance. She just milked my insurance hundreds for her crazy ways. Would not go back!!

Sometimes I would wonder if this doctor had any idea on the things she was talking about. Misdiagnosed my daughter several times and tried to have her take medicine she never needed. Not at all professional in the way she would handle certain things. I left there having an unnecessary panic attack because she told me my daughter had something she didnt have at all. Needless to say I immediately found a new pedtrician.

Here's the scoop and not the poop. Our 3yr old has had a runny nose and just a bit of a cough. His first visit was on this past Friday morning, 11/11/11. The office was busy and the wait to actually see the doctor was super long, right at 2hrs.(My husband's first off day in weeks so he was p'd.) When the doctor came in I immediately noticed that she has a very strong personality but she was absolutely NOT rude to us. She was assertive, she took charge and she was caring at the same time. Dr. Kaukab seems to know exactly what she's doing. She was professional and very thorough as another person mentioned. As we figured she found that our son has allergies. As routine would have it, she checked his ears, nose, and throat. But in addition, she performed a hearing test on my son that not any other doctor has performed and found undeniable evidence that his left ear drum doesn't vibrate to sound and referred us for x-ray at our local hospital's out patient center. This may very well be why… he has trouble speaking clearly. He's seen other doctors and a specialist who never performed this simple test. He is also currently in speech therapy when the issue may be his hearing. We still have to attend the follow-up visit but so far so good.

She was rude and barely even listened to my questions or concerns about my grandson. She even recieved a text message while in the exam room and spent more time replying to it than taking care of him. I will definately be having his mother find him another doctor today!

We have used Dr Kaukub for 4 1/2 years and are very pleased with her as our children's peditrician. She has always been very helpful and always ready to listen to our concerns. The comment on breastfeeding is hard to believe because both my kids were allergic to milk and I was breastfeeding. Dr Kaukub talked to me about changing my diet and everything so I could continue to breast feed my babies. Me and my husband have not always been pleased with some of the staff, but in our opinion, you could never find a doctor any better than Dr Kaukub.

When I requested that my children's records be sent to their new pediatrician, they took 3 MONTHS to send them and then sent INCOMPLETE RECORDS which didn't show all of the vaccinations either of my children were given which has caused NUMEROUS problems with school and daycare. When I requested that the office fix their error, they were completely rude. Not only is the physician incompetent, the staff is RUDE.

I won`t allow my daughter back to this facility. The office staff is extrememly insensitive to my needs or my child`s needs and rude. My 3 year old daughter was brought in with out my knowledge or consent. The staff treated her and prescriped medication for her. When I found out about the visit I called to inquire. After I proved I was primary parent ( I had to present my legal rights, divorce degree, proof of id etc) I was told by Amanda that she would fax over the information about my child`s visit. I waited 6hours without a response. I then called back and spoke to the office manager. She still wouldn`t give me any information, only that they had scheduled a visit to Chattanooga imaging. Since the appointment falls on my parenting time and again, I am primary custodian, I wanted to know what the appointment was for. I was told there were 28 patients waiting, she had 4 children and wasn`t sympathetic to my needs because I put them in a situation to choose sides. I didn`t ask to… choose sides! I simply asked to know what had happened to my child since she was taken into their office without my knowledge and has already an appointment with her primary physician. I wanted facts, not opinions. The woman said when she got around to it she would put the info in the mail, probably sometime mid next week- after the imaging appointment. Then hung up on me!!!
