Dr. Shahnaz Malekan, MD

My experience is similar to others (delayed response to set up appts, wanted full payment before billing insurance company, charged for psychotherapy but sent my daughter for meds. She also billed our insurance company for psychotherapy for my husband and myself for our initial consult to discuss our daughter, along with a bill for me and a separate bill for my husband for the same 60 minute session. The same happened each time I was called into my daughter's session for the last 10 minutes. She billed a full session for me and a full session for my daughter. She also sent erroneous bills to the insurance company for dates on which no patient was seen & no services were rendered. She billed for people that were not present at sessions. She used improper CPT codes with higher payouts, as well as sent multiple bills for the same dates, patient and services. She billed for services not rendered, and sent us bills that didn't show everything she billed Cigna. MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

She tends to draw out sessions with the same questions from previous sessions. She does not appear to have a method in her analysis, unless it's to waste as much time, only to say a few words at the end and schedule another session. You'd get better care from a vet!

Unethical

After many messages told me to send her my personal and insurance information. Told me she accepted my insurance. Never called me back. Called and called. No response. Shameful !!

Absouletely horrible! The most unprofessional, disorganized, rudest woman I have ever met!! She is beyond disrespectful - doesn’t respect HIPAA regulations! Called one of her patients (who had OCD) a pain in the a** because they kept calling during a session. -Cancels appointments. -HER CALLS ARE ALWAYS BACK AND FORTH/ She loses emails. -SHES ALWAYS LATE. -OVERLY CHARGES (tries to make appointments longer) -Very overbearing (Makes assumptions) -She always looks like a mess (or unprepared) -Shows that she gets upset when she hears something she doesn’t like. *PLEASE AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. HER OFFICE IS FLITHY!!* There are papers all over the place and the file she had for me was just scribbles and disorganized!! SHE ALWAYS HAVE NEW RECEPTIONISTS. THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO QUIT!! Spoke to a receptionist who appeared to be very sweet but had some trouble with insurance. All Malaken said was “she’s new. She doesn’t know anything. It’s hard to train new people.” And was… basically talking bad about her. Which in my opinion is very rude. ITS LIKE A GHOST TOWN. I NEVER SEE ANYBODY. It’s dim and there’s nothing positive about that place! Update: PLEASE Don’t lie and say you have countless of patients. She’s told me several times a lot of people don’t come back and that several people haven’t paid their copay. She shouldn’t be telling a patient this. YOU guys are NOT one of the best offices. Clean your office and get some manners. People have true mental issues. They shouldn’t been seen as an annoyance. They are counting on YOU and your educational experience to receive a happier, healthier lifestyle. (Experiences from this were based on 4 patients she’s had. I regret FOR EVER REFERRING MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO HER)

I was told by the Dr that she did not participate with my Insurance and I gladly paid her in full for her time. I submitted the information for the services rendered given to me from the Dr. A few weeks later I received an EOB from my Insurance company. I was anticipating a check to be delivered to me but instead it was a statement showing that the Dr has been paid directly from them because she participated in my Insurance. After many phone calls and emails, to date she had not returned payment to the insurance company nor has she returned any money to me. This matter has been reported to the insurance company and will be reported as fraud.

Lacks basic professionalism. Does not research her case. Makes snap judgement.

I found it easy to talk to Dr. Malekan. She really wants to understand the patientâ??s issues before coming up with possible treatments. She carefully considers the whole patient, the physical as well as the mental. She is conservative in prescribing medications, taking great pains to ensure that she does no harm in the measures she takes to help the patient.
