Dr. Shalini Sangal

Dr. Sangal is horrible overall. She diagnosed me with Bipolar I disorder- mixed episode without me ever having a manic episode (as per the DSM-V), and she didn't put me on any anti-manic medication. When I tried to ask her about it, stating that my psychologist of 8 years has stated I wasn't Bipolar, but had severe anxiety (and I had the medical records and test results to to prove it), she kept interrupting me, and the NP said that since my speech was pressured, that meant I was "acting very Bipolar." She did the same thing to another patient who had been treated by the United States' leading Bipolar expeert for 10+ years. She was also very condescending and showed a trend of keeping people as patients who didn't need to be there and threatened to court-order them. The only good thing I can say is that she was sympathetic to me being homesick (as I live in Tulsa, which is 40 minutes away) and she tried to get me transferred to Laureate without any success

Had me put in the Mental Health Unit for 5+ days because I hadn't slept in 3 days due to a medical condition. Violated my patient rights by never once physically examining me within 18 hours of involuntary commitment, as required by state law. Day 3 I spoke with her for 1-2 minutes OVER SKYPE. Forced me to take medications against my will under threat of obtaining a court order and keeping me there indefinitely. Once my family showed up and informed the staff they were breaking the law (by pointing out certain things on the hospital's own giant "Patient Rights Under the Oklahoma Mental Health Act" poster, every MHU staff on hand dropped what they were doing to process me out. Now they refuse to provide me with an itemized bill (all they'll give me is a general $6000 bill) and will not provide me information as to how I may review my full and complete medical chart (a right granted to anyone under the federal HIPPA law).
