Dr. Shams Sherali Nandwani, MD

After raising 4 children, Dr. Nandwani is everything I would hope for in a pediatrician. He saw our youngest through his infancy, childhood & teens with utter care, patience, wisdom & a conservative approach to prescribing, which I very much appreciated. He was perfectly willing to write the scrip, but respected my wish to wait until truly necessary before medicating, offering homeopathic treatment suggestions as I asked. When the unthinkable happened at 17 & our son had a pending diagnosis of cancer, Dr. Nandwani was quick to recognize when he needed to refer us to Texas Children's Hospital where he was treated & is now completely cancer-free & living a wonderful life. I have recommended Dr. Nandwani to friends & will continue to do so.

My husband and I are first time parents and as such had a lot of concerns. I have at least three issues that I would like to write in this review that has led us to decide to find another pediatrician. When I first searched for a pediatrician online and read all the reviews I noticed that Dr. Nanwani was at the top of the list. When we gave birth at the hospital all the nurses said he was such a good doctor so I was so happy we chose to go to him. At the newborn consultation appointment I asked if the vaccinations contained mercury and he looked me straight in the face and said no. As we all know this is not so. Our first and second visits were with dr Fayea who was very good, he took the time to talk and explain things to us and never turned his back on our baby without asking us to place a hand on her. Our one month visit with Dr. Nandwani is what really got me going. At that visit he was so disoriented and did a quick check of my baby. I knew my baby had an umbilical granuloma and… he missed it and I had to ask him to please take a look at her belly botton. He treated it with silver nitrate and quickly exited out appointment. He seemed as though he was in a hurry and I asked if we needed to do a follow up and he said no. I however made a followup appointment as I did not like how her granuloma was healing up. At that appointment I requested Dr. Fayea and somehow got Dr. Nandwani again. I asked him about the silver nitrate and if it would burn her skin and he said no. I also mentioned to him that we were allowing our baby to sleep with us and later we would like to transition to her crib and asked if he had any advice on how to go about doing that and he replied "well dont come crying to me later on with that". How disrespectful and insensitive to tell new parents that! When we got home a day later there were red marks around my baby's belly button and to my surprise I noticed she did get burn from the silver nitrate. The first treatment didnt burn her skin but the second did. That was my turning point there. That got me so upset that I said I will never go back to that facility and I will write a review so that other parents out there can see and learn from this. This pediatrician is not right for our family, perhaps he might be right for yours. I would not recommend him. I would give only one start for Dr, Nandwani but I gave 2 stars for the good experience we had with the other staff members.

Dr. Nandwani is an excellent doctor. The only downfall to visiting him is that I spend 2-3 hours waiting to see him, which I've been doing for about 10 years now.

He is a great Dr. I've been taking my kids to him since 2004.

He is the best doctor. He tries not to jump onto medication if a symptom can be controlled by itself because it decreases their immunity. He doesnt unnecissarily sends us to hospitals and ask for unecessary follow ups. He is prompt and couteous. Spends a lot of time with my kids and try to give us as much details as possible. He also follows up with phone calls when my kids are extremely sick. He is an outstanding dr. and his staff is good as well.

He was treating my son for bronchitis which he had from 1month to 4 months. But on top of that he came down with RSV. He did NOT test or treat him for it. When I requested him to and asked him about it. He did NOT seem to care. He acted like he just wanted to hurry up and get us out of the office. On this particular day my son had stopped breathing twice that day. 5 times the day after and 3 time the following day. And yes I had to give my own 3 month old cpr. The night he had stopped breathing 3 times we were at the er. They tested him for RSV and it came back that he had it.(I knew he did) The nurses started and hr neb treatment and not even 5 min into it we lost him. But luckily they were able to do cpr and revive him. He was life flighted to Memorial Hermann Children's Pediatric ICU for a month he was sedated, on a vedalator, feeding tube, IV's, antibiotics, ect. If he was treated properly by Dr. Nandwani we would have been at home treating the symptoms instead of being… at the hospital for a month paying unnessary gas, parking, food, ect. When he was transferred to Memorial Hermann he was 3 months. If we were not at the er when we completly lost him we would not have gotten medial help quick enough to save his life.
