Dr. Shan Ray Baker, MD

This man is an extremely poor doctor. He did my face lift 9 years ago, forgot to do half of it (which I paid for upfront), and which was discovered in front of 2 of his fellows when he took the bandages off. He refused to make good on it and do the part 'he forgot' to do even though I paid for $5000 for just that part). It was only a couple months before my daughter's wedding so he said if I wanted him to do the part he forgot to do I would have to pay him another $5000 for the facility fee. I told him he shouldn't charge me at all as I already paid for it and it was his fault for forgetting plus he had all my requirements in writing and on tape after 5 meetings. He charged me $11,000 to do and upper and lower face lift, which I paid for up front. Then after he messed it up, charged me another $5000 to fix it so total ended up $16,000+. You ask why didn't I go elsewhere? Because it takes time to research someone new, and the healing process takes a couple months and my daughter's… wedding was looming, plus someone else would have charged even more just to do the upper lift. I felt trapped by the urgency to get it done before my daughter's wedding so I agreed to it, which they made me pay up front again. When I came to this time, I saw that he didn't even do that right either (it was a temple lift he forgot to do). He just did a quickie job. Instead of making the incisions in the side of my head in my hairline above my ears where you pull back the skin, he just did two little incisions right in front of my hairline on the temple so to this day I can't wear my hair pulled back without the scars showing. And the lift started falling down 2 years ago. I'm petite, only 120 pounds, so no reason for it falling in such a short time. Also, when I came to, I heard laughing, looked up and saw Dr. Baker still stitching my face (while awake) and a group of staff the corner laughing about something. No one was assisting him. So where did the additional $5000 go? Not only did he rip me off financially, he did an appalling job on my face both times. I did extensive research before going to him, he came highly recommended, even called American Association of Plastic Surgeons to verify him. But first hint something was off was on first appointment when his assistant warned me he behaves a little odd but that he was a good doctor. I saw him 5 times before hiring him to do the work, each time, he didn't remember who I was, he tape recorded everything probably because of his faulty memory, and seemed almost like beginning stages of dementia (which my mother had). But his staff, his reviews, his credentials (then a professor at Michigan State), the PS board, even met with one of his patients, all said he was a brilliant surgeon. HE IS NOT! He may be good for ear, nose and throat, but he is not a good face lift surgeon. Clearly, this is not his wheelhouse. Most costly mistake of my life. He traumatized me physically, mentally and financially, which still affects my life to this day. Why did I wait so long to write this review? And why didn't I sue him? Because I was dealing with a huge wedding production, 2 cross country moves, and trying to save my business and home from the recession. I'm now retired and have the time to catch up on things like this. Consider yourself warned!

Excellent results after Dr. Baker repaired my face after Moh’s surgery. It has been 4 months since surgery and you can’t see the scar even without makeup. I would recommend him highly for Moh’s repair or work on your face.

I have used Dr. baker twice after Mohs surgery on my face. He did an amazing job both times.

I can't believe I am reading terrible reviews on this doctor over 25 years later. I had horrible sinus problems after the surgery and a number of people telling me (nurses at UMICH) that I never should have had him do my surgery.

Dr. Baker did an excellent job with diagnosis and surgery for me. He really seemed to care about me and my outcome.

Dr. Baker performed an Endoscopic brow lift on me. Results were not favorable therefore, we decided open approach (full brow lift/forehead lift). I was only 36 years old @ the time but did not like the line between my brows. I ended up with lumps and dents in my forehead. He said it is my anatomy and he can no longer help me. I look worse than before. How sad. Wish I went to a different surgeon.
