Dr. Shane Gary Machen, DO

Extremely impressed with Dr Machen. He is very kind, caring and knowledgeable.

He always takes the time to listen and understand. He is thorough and does a fantastic job! Is awesome with kids.

Dr. Rocco Cifrese was my families physician for years... Machen has all the records and I thought the blessing of Dr. Cifrese. However for my first visit with Dr. Cifrese he said come in and lets visit in my office (he meant at his desk much to my surprise) I met with him and we spoke for maybe 30 min. and no money was exchanged. He was thorough, listened, discussed a course of action then implemented it IF you agreed. Though the staff of Machen was nice, beautiful building and all, somethings need improvement. I went in due to knee pain, and my lower legs swelling. I was soon asked and pressured to get a mammogram, and to have him do a full body scan for skin cancer, moles and the like. This was my first time meeting this young man... and these things made me feel uncomfortable. Especially since my concerns were not met, he told me he would give me a prescription for the swelling but never did, he gave me a prescription to have my blood drawn, but didn't tell me I needed to… fast... so I went their twice. Of the 3 test's he asked for regarding my blood, 2 of the codes were wrong so I waited over an hour.... finally deciding to have the blood drawn and if the codes came trough they would process it (kind suggestion from Treasure Valley) and only one code came back in time. One of the test's was to see fat content in my blood, I could have told him that would be high due to my intake at the time. Later I found out that my legs swelled due to "over workout syndrome" , this caused me to not eat but drink 1 quart of milk and 1 quart of orange juice for each meal. When I returned home from vacation (hence the long, very long walks after hibernating the Idaho winter) the swelling went down and my body (then 10 pounds lighter) was craving fat! Tubs of cottage cheese, yogurt and ice cream were inhaled! I left Machen feeling unheard, with no plan for addressing my issues and paying for tests I didn't need. I am but one person, with one issue, that didn't get the care I was looking for, I won't be back.
