Dr. Shannon Margaret Abikhaled, MD

I had been seeing this doctor for almost 5 years and never really had a problem with her. When I got pregnant and started going for my monthly check-ups is when I started to notice some things. She actually helped us get pregnant. I had gone to get some extensive blood work done to make sure the baby was okay and one of those tests was able to tell us the sex. When I saw my doctor again I mentioned the sex to her and her reaction was "I'm sorry" with a sad, disappointed look on her face. At first I thought she was joking but she said "I'm sorry" two more times before the appointment was over. I thought it was pretty strange and somewhat rude. Here I was so excited about having a baby. It was our first baby and we had some struggles getting pregnant. I was just so happy that it finally happened and I just didn't understand why she would say that. You don't try to take away a pregnant woman's happiness!!! I told myself, I will go see her next month and just wait and see what… happens. I show up on my next appointment, everything was fine and when she was just about finished she said, "Everything looks great except for the fact that it's a boy". I didn't say anything, just gave a weird smile and left. I decided on that day to change doctors. I honestly didn't feel like I could trust her anymore. How would I know she wouldn't be acting weird on the day of the delivery. Why would I put myself through that??!! As I thought about it, I remembered that she had mentioned before that she was having some problems with her teenage son. Although I can sympathize with that, she still needs to be professional and keep her personal emotional opinions to herself. She is there to look after my health, that is all. I have a new doctor now and I am very happy with her. She is friendly, professional and has many years of experience. I feel safe in her hands. Bottom line, Abikhaled is a good doctor but her bedside manner needs some work.

This is a very busy office, but all of the staff at Dr. Abikhaled's office are very caring and professional. She always takes the time to talk to me about my health and answer any questions.

I placed 55 minutes waiting but that is the average. Sometiimes it was even worse.She didn't get anything rigth with me. Prognosis... wrong! Medicine to take... wrong!! I will never get back to her. Two years wasted!! Go somewhere else!!

I had been going to Planned Parenthood to get my birth control pills, and hadn't gotten a pap in a while. Once I had insurance again, I was trying to find the right doctor- and was referred to Dr. Abikhaled by another doctor due to an abnormal pap. Once I went to her I knew immediately she was the right fit. She's very patient, very friendly, and very reassuring. While the first doctor had me terrified that I was having some very serious issue, she assured me that they were fairly common. I've had a colopscopy and a LEEP procedure done by her. The wait time for the colopscopy was around a half an hour because there was a mixup with my appointment, which had somehow disappeared from their system. They made sure to get me back in there, and were very nice about it. For the LEEP procedure I was immediately called and didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes. If you're looking for a new doctor and haven't had much luck elsewhere, I would highly recommend her. While I don't want to… fill her appointments any more with other people than they already are- everyone deserves someone as professional and polite as her.

Dr Abikhaled is your best bet in Austin for an OBGYN. I had Horrible experiences with arrogant unprofessional inapt OBGYN in town which caused me unnecessary pain and anguish and fertility issues! Dr. Abikhaled was recommended by an excellent fertility doctor I was seeing to treat those. Once I finally was pregnant he referred me to her. She is an excellent doctor, very knowledgeable and gentle. However even more importantly she is an outstanding human being! She is the most attentive, respectful and sensitive OBGYN I have ever had the pleasure to work with. She gives her patients very personalized care. I had to page her once and she was on the phone within 3 minutes!She was always very patient and accommodating for every question we had. She was willing to accept our quite "alternative" birth plan (we want a natural unmedicated birth using hypnobirthing techniques). She is never intimidated by us questioning established OB procedures and is extremely frank and forthcoming about every… aspect of the "hospital experience". We never had problems communicating with her and reaching solutions that would work for everyone involved.To conclude - if you are looking for a great, supportive, attentive, as well as highly professional OBGYN in Austin Dr. Abikhaled is the best you can get! If she is a bit busy sometimes - because she is SO POPULAR - she is more than well worth the wait. After all she will than spend as much time with YOU discussing your personal concerns as she did with the patient before you...
