Dr. Shannon K Oates, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Oates for about 15 years. She is amazing. She is funny. Has an amazing bedside manner. She takes her time talking about tests and what needs to be done to correct numbers. She literally saved my life when I started seeing her. I have in the past, and always will highly recommend this doctor.

After seeing a few different doctors in the high rated hospitals in Chicago, I realized after seeing Dr. Oates, it was the best change I ever made! I am so glad I found her name online and picked a great doctor! :)

Some of my tests came back abnormal but Dr. Oates did nothing to follow up on those tests. In the mean time I spent several more months feeling extremely unwell until finding a doctor that could get to the bottom of my health problems. I felt Dr. Oates was very dismissive of me in person and when I called in to her office. I fully agree with other negative posts on this site. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone!

Dr. Oates is completely irresponsible about following up with patients. When I had questions about a battery of tests she ordered, some of which were outside the normal range, she refused to see me except 4 months out, and put an incompetant nurses aide on the phone who couldn't answer my questions. This was nothwithstanding the fact that there were obvious errors in her written notes. I wasted 4 months waiting to see her initially, and now finally I am getting decent care in Indianapolis. As a counterpoint to the above remarks, I believe she is quite competant, and 'funny' too as one of the other reviewers states, but critically is far too busy to deal appropriately with patients. If she has no time, then she shouldn't see new patients, instead of creating a fiasco like I experienced.

Dr oates really cares about people. We feel like she's a caring dear friend who is on our side. Her medical advice is always trustworthy....she's funny too!

Dr. Oates has been my endocrinologist for several years. I would have to say the quality of care I have received from her has varied. She was very good and attentive in the beginning, but I feel that she has become very rushed recently. She completely blew off some problems I was having and insisted that it wasn't what I thought it was. It turns out it was exactly what I thought it was, and I needed to have surgery for the condition. I actually wish I could switch to another endocrinologist, but I have no other choice in the area.
