Dr. Shantanu Bishwal, MD

I met my Dr. Bishwal 2 years ago at the Geisinger,Wyoming Valley office. There was very little wait time to see him which I thought was just luck for me that day,but it's like that each time I go.He's very sweet.He always greets me with a handshake and a smile. My first visit was kinda scary being young and having been diagnosed with RA. He asked lots of questions and sent me for a lot of tests. It was a relief to know that he not only tested me for what my original labs found but diseases that mimic my condition such as lupus and cancer. RA wasn't officially diagnosed for several months,as he watched me closely in the beginning.When he prescribed biologic medication he knew I was nervous taking new pills but always asked how I felt about taking it. If I wasn't comfortable with it then we would discuss a different plan.He always checked for swelling in my joints,pain,and my range of motion with my arms in which he was able to see immediately which one was the problem.I am tested every… time I go for kidney and liver function among other things. Any changes that are not good to those organs;he will stop the medication that could be causing damage. That shows me he's on the ball and cares for his patients.The only problem I had with him was occasionally it seemed like he was rushing me during office visits or he would forget to explain to me the side effects of some of the medications.I would recommend him to my friends and family. My insurance is no longer accepted where at the hospital where he is and so I am changing my insurance. I will NOT change my doctor. That is how much I trust him.
