Dr. Shanthan Pendem, MD

Shanthan Pendem, MD is an intensivist who works primarily in the St. Alexius Intensive Care Unit (ICU). An Intensivist is a physician trained specifically in the care of critically ill patients, who spends all or the majority of his time exclusively in the intensive care unit. ICUs with Intensivists generally have better outcomes compared to those without. It is estimated that less than fifteen(15) percent of all hospitals in the United States have Intensivists working in their ICUs.

Pendem earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, India, where he also completed his medical internship and completed an internship at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He then completed an Internal Medicine Residency at St. Vincent's Medical Center (New York Medical College) in Staten Island, NY, and received "Best Resident" award for 2001-2002.

Pendem completed a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is board …certified in Critical Care Medicine and Internal Medicine and is licensed in both North Dakota and Minnesota. Pendem enjoys traveling and playing tennis.
