Dr. Shanthi Marie Colaco, MD

Dr. Shanti Colaco was rude, inpatient and overall difficult to communicate with. I had a few questions about my psoriasis and she answered them with her back turned to me while walking out of the room. I was extremely surprised by her poor manners and would not go there again under any circumstances.

Dr. Colaco is simply fantastic. I have seen 5 dermatologists over 8 years at that practice and saw Dr. Colaco for the first time last week. She was easily my favorite. She was very helpful and knowledgeable when recommending skin treatments for acne. In addition, she has a warm personality, which makes for a great bedside manner. This was the best experience I have had seeing a doctor for the first time. A+

Dr. Shanthi Colaco was a warm, friendly doctor, who was knowledgeable and professional. She immediately put me at ease and took time to ask me in-depth questions. I'm glad I went to see Dr. Colaco even after reading the bad review on this site. She was nothing like what the other reviewer said. It was clear from the level of care that she gave me that Dr. Colaco cares about her patients and does everything she can to help. I was relieved to have all my issues addressed. I'm SO GLAD to have finally found a great dermatologist!

saw dr. coloco for the first time for a skin problem I have been dealing with for many years. i really felt like she listened to what I had to say and guided me to decide upon a treatment option that i felt comfortable with instead of just telling me what to do right away. not to mention she is friendly and easy to talk to and you can tell she really cares. overall very happy with my experience! only complaint is wait time about 25 min, but the doc actually apologized the minute she walked in.

Came to see Dr. Colaco after seeing two other dermatologists who were not able to diagnose my condition. Dr. Colaco right away told me exactly what I had and explained the treatment options to me in a way I could understand. And the treatment worked within two weeks like she said it would. I just wish I had seen her sooner! She was very caring and took her time to answer all my questions. I would highly recommend her.

I am a forty year old female. I went to Dr. Shanti Colaco for a second opinion on my thinning hair and recent baldness (male pattern baldness- receding hairline and baldness on the center of my scalp). Prior to me meeting Dr. Colaco, I was pre-screened by one of her assistants to determine the reason for my visit. When Dr. Shanti entered the room, she looked at me as if she was surprised. I felt a bit uncomfortable so I tried to break the ice by saying shocking, right?.To my dismay, she responded Based on what I learned from what was written on your chart, I did not have to enter the room to know that you have African American hair. I was so confused by that statement, I had to ask her what she meant by that. Her response to that was Well, African Americans tend to wear their hair in tight ponytails or braids which causes these types of issuesI followed by telling her that I do not wear ponytails or braids so she should not stereotype people, based on their race. I am the only… female in my family (including maternal and paternal relatives) that have this problem. I also told her that I wore weaves in the past but the first dermatologist took a biopsy of my scalp and determined that there were no scar tissues or inflammation to my scalp. The first dermatologist happens to think it may be a result of low iron and or a combination of genetics. I wanted to know what her opinion/diagnosis was and if there is any treatment for my issue.This woman was adamant that thinning hair/baldness was a result of how I wore my hair and the situation may be permanent.She did not even look in the center of my hair, which is where the majority of the problem is!She offered repeatedly for her to take another biopsy of my scalp to determine if there are scar tissues on my scalp and I reminded her several times that it was done already and the result was negative and it does not make sense to me for her to repeat the same procedure.She is an idiot, inexperienced and she should at least learn some bedside manners! I am shocked that this woman is in any kind of profession!

Saw Dr. Calaco today for a eczema related condition. She gave me a prescription and advice. Don't know how effective the treatment is yet, but she is youthful, approachable and her manner was very friendly; plus it's a nice office and conveniently located near Columbus Circle.

Compassionate, Knowledgeable, I simply LOVE her. She explained things in normal language and gave me samples and rebates. Here is one Dr. that cares. I would recommend her to all my family and friends!!!
