Dr. Sharette Kirsten Gray, MD

I owe so much to Dr Gray, I can’t say as much as I’d like too using this forum. It’s been a few years since Dr Gray left the Temple TX Veterans Administration and I wanted my experience to stand the test of time before “chiming in” and rating a true professional. I had a series of surgeries on my spine from neck to lower back. As a result I was put on opioids for long term chronic pain, long term ended up to mean almost 13 years taking, oxycodone then morphine and hydrocodone. I was hopelessly dependent on opioids and finally decided to stop living from prescription to prescription and sought help then ended up in Dr Gray’s office. She was the first doctor over those many years who explained the difference between being addicted and being dependent on opioids. This ended up being a paramount day in my life. I took my meds as prescribed nothing more or less but found the pain of being without greater than the chronic pain associated with the surgeries. She asked me what my goals were… and I told her I wanted off pain meds completely in 12 months, lofty goals even in my mind and I was driven. Dr Gray was such an easy person to open up to, and as a retired Army Master Sergeant this was definitely I don’t bare my soul easily. As not to make a long story longer I will just say that under Dr Gray’s care and guidance I met all my goals in 12 months. I honestly believe that without her care, guidance and understanding I would have ended up doing street drugs and probably being just another statistic in the opioid crisis. I believe in my heart that Dr Gray saved my life as the VA would have just allowed me refill after refill until the obvious was achieved. I may have been driven, but sometimes drive isn’t enough, the compassion, understanding and guidance I received from this true professional. I don’t count days “sober” or go to NA meetings as it’s not my style, but it’s been almost 4 years since I refilled my last opioid prescription from the Veterans Administration.

Doctor Gray has been integral in my recovery as one who has suffered from Bi-Polar, and PTSD for many years. I’ve never seen a Dr. that cared so much about achieving positive results with a patient. We worked together at adjusting my meds until we found the perfect combination. I feel that Dr. Gray gave me a second chance at life! I have recently moved the area she serves. I will truly miss her!!!

Dr. Gray has helped me so much with my anxiety. She shares my enjoyment with the progress I have been making. I would recommend her to anyone.

Dr. Gray is an amazing Doctor and I firmly believe that she has been a vital component to my overall healing, recovery, and wellness program! She is an unbiased listener who intuitively hears what the patient is trying to express, and then, along with her knowledge and experience, decides the best course of treatment. Dr. Gray possesses all the qualities one would hope to find in an excellent Doctor. She is firm yet gentle, educated and intuitive, encouraging, patient, and kind.

I was a patient of Dr. Gray's from 2004 to 2007. I have never met anyone more thoughtful and caring. Her dedication to her client is felt from the very first interaction. Dealing with military PTSD can be difficult, many soldier and veterans give up on treatment before they begin to see the benefits of therapy. Dr. Gray showed me compassion and empathy that fostered a safe and healing environment. Trust is a crucial part in successful mental health treatment. I have and still to this day trust Dr. Gray with my life. She has never made me feel less than or judged for anything that I said or may have felt. Dr. Gray is a true professional. I would recommend her to anyone, especially current or past military service members needing help with PTSD.
