Dr. Sharon Louise Maturo, MD

I saw Dr. Maturo at the end of my 3rd pregnancy after moving from Florida to KC. Her demeanor was very kind and compassionate and pleasant. But when my health declined very suddenly during that pregnancy she did not provide helpful solutions or even perform the correct tests determine what was going on. She admitted me to the hospital, and I consistently was told "we just don't know." She never even came to see me in the hospital though I was there for almost 2 weeks. And her associate that came in her place was very rude. Telling me that this wasn't a medical problem; it was just because I had too many children, and I shouldn't have any more. It wasn't until 1.5 years later that another doctor after viewing my medical records told me that my symptoms during my time under her care very clearly evidenced a TIA, and he was very surprised that Dr. Maturo had never even ordered any tests to rule that out. For patients looking for a kind doctor with straightforward care, she would be fine.… But I do not recommend her for high-risk or complicated pregnancies.

Hi our experience with Dr Maturo all started when my wife started to have problems with very heavy periods and was referred to Dr Maturo from her FP doctor. On her first visit during her exam she had some bleeding that prompted Dr Maturo to send her to the ER which we spent most of the night in and she was subjected to tests and treatment which she did not need. After the ER visit Dr Maturo scheduled a office visit prior to a procedure she recommended called an "ablasion" We went together to the visit as I have been in health care for 27 years and my wife trusts me and we had several questions. Once Dr Maturo came in the room she was preoccupied as she had another patient who apparently was due to deliver so she was very very short with us and would not stay and answer questions. She stated that the product rep had to be in the room with my wife which we both have and had a huge problem with. If a rep has to be in the room it should have been a female at the very least. Dr Maturo said… she had to go as she had to deliver a baby and promptly left. She acted like she did not want to even talk to me and was very rude and my wife was very uncomfortable but we had to get this problem fixed. I have worked with doctors of many disciplines for many years and can not remember a time when I have been treated so rudely. The next day we showed up at the hospital for the procedure and I we were very very uncomfortable with this male sales rep thing and asked not to have I'm in there and Dr Maturo stated she would not do the procedure without him which again made us more uncomfortable. My wife was taken back and Dr Maturo came out and talked to me part of the way through the procedure telling me her fibroid was very large and she used a procedure to remove it and she did not believe that the ablation would work so she and I agreed not to do it. My wife was finished and taken to recovery which I was still unable to see he as the hospital she went to does not accolade family in recovery that is another problem as it was never explained to us that a ablation can be done in the office where I could have been with her. That hospital "Menorah Medical Center in OP Kansas we will never ever visit again. The entire procedure took several hours but as of now she at least is not having any further problems. We then went back to Dr Maturo's office for a post-op appointment and she was again subjected to a pelvic exam which we both felt was unnecessary as she was having no complications or signs/symptoms of an infection and when my wife asked about the need for it Dr Maturo stated she had to do it. My wife and I feel she was exposed to things that didi not need to be done and the entire process was not we'll explained to us or even what other options we had. We feel we were forced into things she may not have needed and when we tried to talk to the doctor she is very short and rude. This was the worst experience with any doctor or hospital we have ever had and we believe she was exposed to things she did not need and so we are currently consulting with an attorney to review the matter. We are so disappointed that we are asking her medical records be sent to her FP doctor and we will seek out a better OB doctor for any future care we will never see Dr Maturo or anyone in the woman's clinic of Johnson County Kansas again. I am also changing my medical coverage so all the HCA facilities including Menorah will not be covered so we may go to a more patient and family friendly hospital. Do your research when selecting a doctor, get a second opinion and make sure you get all questions answered and do not let any doctor push you into something you do not fully understand you always have the right to refuse treatment and you can sign an AMA form and leave you do not have to always do just what the doctor recommends or wants.

When I read reviews regarding long wait times and time spent with patients I am shocked. Yes, you may have to wait, especially when seeing an OBGYN, babies don't come as scheduled. I will never complain about waiting for a good doctor. My experience with Dr. Maturo has been nothing but positive. I was probably the patient before you that made the Doctor behind. I'm sure Dr. Maturo spent longer than 45 minutes with me going over my cancer diagnosis and our plan. The nurses handled all of my appointment scheduling with the many specialists I had to see. The morning of my surgery, imagine my surprise to see Dr. Maturo walk through the doors at KU Cancer Center just to sit with me and hold me hand in pre-op. Dr. Maturo and her staff went above and beyond. I am forever grateful.

Waited over an. Hour and a half for apothegm. Nurse rude. Then they had wrong chart. They did not even apoligize! This is my last visit to this doctor.

I was not satisfied at all with my experience at this location. I can see my review a not typical, which is encouraging, but I for one will not return. I had never had a pap smear primarily because of fear and I expected a lot more time and explanation of the procedure. I was very uncomfortable and left feeling confused. Not to mention I waited 45 min in the lobby and then another 45 min in the doctors office...in a doctors gown. I apologize for the bad review but this was something that needed to be said. I don't recommend this location for any first timers. Perhaps the experience is different for returning patients. Sadly, I'll never know.
