Dr. Sharon Groh Vocino, MD

Dr Vocino is an excellent physician. Listens carefully and uses time efficiently. Will work with you to achieve and maintain good health. I was able to lose weight to lower cholesterol and avoid prediabetes progressing to diabetes with her guidance. Encourages but is practical.

I have now been a patient of Dr. Vocino for four years, and for the first time in my entire life I have a primary care doctor who I feel understands me and who I can trust. She has worked with me to create a plan together to help me manage my mental health, instead of just telling me what I should do. As a patient, I feel empowered to voice my desires and opinions, which in turn translates to care plans that feel approachable and comfortable to me. I have never been treated with such respect by a provider. She is also very accepting and welcoming to the LGBT community. I cannot recommend her highly enough!

Assumes without checking. Writes information in record but don't communicate medical information to patient. suggested that to inhale asthma spray just pretend "your" smoking a cigarette, without instructing one how to actually use asthma spray. I never want to see her again.

Some of these reviews surprise me because they are not reflective of my experience at all. I find Dr. Vocino very helpful and encouraging. She has followed up with me via email and phone and I have referred her to several friends and colleagues.

Dr Vocino is a fine doctor. She is more of a doer than a listener. She is pragmatic and thats fine if you don't talk too much. If you do, she will cut you off. Her manor works for those who don't mind being approached medically like a fish being cleaned by a prawn. .Rush in, clean, glean, rush out. She is very smart. Knows her stuff. But there is a little girl who has a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. And when she is good, she is very very good but when she is rude.....

Great doctor. I've gotten my physical with Dr. Vocino 2x and she is great. Very friendly, listens and is someone you can feel comfortable talking about medical issues with. The Northwestern network creates some red tape to get in contact with the doctor that I'm not a fan of, but once you get to Dr. Vocino's clinic and get one of her people on the phone, they are fantastic. My previous experience with doctors is in a smaller city, so perhaps the red tape I described above is a function of being in Chicago. Either way, if you're looking for a doctor within the Northwestern network, you'd be hard pressed to find one as good as Dr. Vocino.

She is extremely rude and unprofessional. When I asked a question while she was explaining why something was required, she yelled "Let me finish"! I was completely taken aback by her tone and attitude. She didnt understand why I was upset. I've see my records and the doctor did not accurately document conversations and left out complete comments. Her notes are slanted to make it appear if she was providing a full range of care but if the total conversation was available it would be clear the opposite is true. Be very careful if you choose to see her.

Do not use this doctor. She is not interested in patient care. The doctor has imposed a rule that she requires to see patients every 6 months. Regardless of their health care needs. She refuses to bend this rule. I was not aware of the 6 month rule and she refused to refill my daily prescriptions even for a few days until I could schedule an appointment with her or another doctor in the office. She doesn't return calls and does not speak to patients. She has a nurse technician call.

I'm a little surprised by the negative online reviews of Dr. Vocino, to be honest, (and a little alarmed). I'll have to see how her practice pans out in time. That said, my own experience with Dr. Vocino has been really good. I have some chronic illnesses that desperately needed some management since I haven't had a primary care doctor in years. Dr. Vocino has been excellent in helping me manage them, and is kind, caring, and approachable. None of my visits with her have felt rushed; she's really thorough in asking details about these conditions, and in asking how I am faring in general. She almost always follows-up with me after a visit, and is generally very professional and friendly, which is why I am surprised by the reviews here (and another site) that say she was anything but.

I was able to get an initial appointment with ease and within a couple of days of phoning. I found her very approachable and a good listener. She made very reasonable suggestions for my managed care that were respective to my condition, my health goals, and the fact that I am an out-of-pocket patient and need to be concerned about cost of procedures. I have only seen her once, so will weigh the issues as they arise. The only thing I did not like (though this might be a NMH policy rather than hers) was that the meeting ended in the exam room. At my previous doctor, in another city, I always met him for a final consultation in his office. So, as a consequence, I ended up at the billing desk without having come to closure. Hence, I was without prescription in hand. The nurse, however, followed up with me over the phone and all is well.
