Dr. Shashi Sharma, MD

When I first visited, a recommendation from my primary doctor, I thought she was very friendly. She seemed to care about my health needs, including mental health, which I thought was great. When she thought she felt lumps in my breasts and saw some concerns she got me in and checked quickly. Turned out I had nothing to worry about, but appreciated her quick response. The last three years I have been less than impressed. I continually answer the same questions for routine appointments, which seem to last 2 or more hours because she is attending to other buissness. I once had to reschedule an appointment because we ran out of time, and was charged for both. When i wanted to go on birth control She had came off as arrogant and judgemental of my personal choices. I originally wanted a IUD that she told me my insurance wouldn't cover, pretending to care about my financial situation. My insuranced carrier does cover it, and I told her that was so but refused to implant it, so I went with… the ring. Since being on it, I've had to call her office four times to get it filled, was told she'd call me back or call to have it filled but never got around to it. I've had to go to urgent care to be seen each time to get the prescription in time. I don't feel as though she values my time and I don't find her to be very professional or kind. I'm searching for a new obgyn.

I am highly disappointed with her. Appointment times take 2 plus hours. One time I had an appointment waited 20 min in the waiting room, answers a bunch of the same questions I had answers at a previous appointment which took over an hour because she continually had to leave to take care of other buissness. Once in the room and on gaenfor my exam a phone call came in that she said she had to take, which took an extra 45 min before she started the exam. She could tell I was super frustrated and blamed the issue on my anxiety caused from childhood trauma, when really I just needed to be somewhere else. I didn't feel as tho my time was valued. I had come in for an annual review and to get a prescription for birth control, which I had to call several times to get the script to the pharmacy, and hen when the pharmacy needed to refill prescription she never faxed it back, I had to call several times and she told me quote "I have more important patience with more important issues, I will get… to it when I have time." It never happened and I missed the refill in my prescription. There were other issues with bedside manner, I never once came out of her office feeling better about myself, tho she attempted to counsel me. On a positive note the office staff is friendly and getting an appointment is pretty easy, just expect to be there for a long time.

Back in 2006 was 43 and pregnant with my first child. I was sent to Dr. Sharma by my OB. Needless to say I was high risk. Dr. Sharma was wonderful! She took great care of me and the baby. She has such a kind, soft-spoken way and makes you feel very comfortable. If I had had another baby, I would have gone to her again without question.

Dr. Sharma saved our son's life at birth in 1994 at Highland Hospital in Rochester NY..we will be forever greatful. He was 3lbs 4 ozs at birth and Dr. Sharma postponed a lecture trip to England to attend to the emergency delivery.

My overall opinion is she gets the job done. there is always a long wait before being seen. She only wants questions answered.she is arrogant and bossy. Her personality is very poor. A good doctor listens to there patients and at least pretend that they care but Dr. Sharma really doesn't care.She is pushy and ignores you when you speak other than answering her questions.She makes you feel like a computer that needs fixed.looks at you, diagnoses,and fixes.Nothing else.Excuse me for having feelings when it deals with my personal life and needing help to start a family.

The reason the wait time is a bit long it's because Dr. Sharma spends a lot of time talking to you and asking questions about your health. I have been a patient for 22 years and don't mind the wait at all. She is an awesome doctor!
