Dr. Shaun Patrick Wood, MD

Talked to him on the phone about my son who he had been seeing in the hospital for two weeks. I wanted to know how a bipolar diagnosis should effect how I respond to the substance abuse. He was rushed, impatient and scornful of substance abuse. Made assumptions about me without knowing anything about me.

Absolutely HORRIBLE doctor. Does NOT care about his patients at all! I kept him as my doctor after I was hospitalized because I couldn't get in to see anyone for over 6 months! I had been suffering from chronic depression, generalized anxiety and severe social anxiety. Things had been going downhill quickly and I requested another medication since I didn't feel like the Effexor I was on was helping. Instead of talking about it, he boosted the Effexor I was taking. My heart rate skyrocketed midday Friday. I developed tachycardia and Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder. I called his office begging for assistance. He ignored all of the calls after his staff said he would call back. I tried almost 5 times to get ahold of him (trying to keep myself from having to pay for an ER visit). Finally he told one of his staff to pass along the message that he wouldn't accept my call and to call during regular office hours on Monday. I finally got ahold of him Monday to have an "emergency"… appointment. He said that my heartrate shouldn't be related to my meds and that my discomfort from PGAD was an "bonus side effect". Apparently, having extreme discomfort and swelling in my genitals caused by SSRIs is something I should be 'thankful for' because most people complain that they have no sex drive! I requested an immediate transfer to another doctor but it had to be approved by Dr Wood and I would have to do a full evaluation with another doctor. Too bad that the wait time to see another doctor for my evaluation was over 3 months! I just stopped going and sought out another psychiatrist. Thank God I did. I finally feel like I have a say in my medications and have a doctor that listens to me when I explain how I am feeling on my meds. Long story short: AVOID DR WOOD AT ALL COSTS

I see Dr. Wood for my OCD and he's the best psychiatrist I've ever had!

Dr. Shaun Wood should not be giving advice on family or relationships. He wants to overmedicate and put a band-aid on everything instead of listening to the problem. He was more interested in discussing his love for Porsches than talking to me and then lo and behold "our time was up" and we needed to schedule for the following week. Um, no.

He should not be a psychiatrists. It’s a shame that he cares for people who have mental illnesses. I would not recommend him. You I’ll spend about 5 minutes with him (which is common for psychiatrists) and he will barely listen to you.

Dr. Wood should not be in the business of caring for anyone’s mental health. He is quick to medicate and blame instead of figuring out the issue. He was more interested in my money and what kind of car I drive than in my care. I would recommend someone with less arrogance and more compassion. Awful experience.

I don’t think I’ve really met a Dr who is this unfriendly and grumpy. I did not enjoy my care with Dr. Wood. He really gets irritated easily and needs to learn how to be a bit more compassionate, especially in psychiatry.
