Dr. Shawna Karri Hedley, MD

Dr. Hedley is a fantastic OB. I found her to be a very warm, intelligent doctor. She’s certainly very busy (hard to get appointments and plan to wait awhile in the waiting room) but once you get her in the room you have her full attention and she will answer questions thoroughly. I did not end up delivering with her but I got the impression during my prenatal appointments that she would be especially well suited for women looking for a natural birth. However, the attentive care stops in the exam room. The office staff are careless – losing appointments, billing visits to insurance incorrectly, missing documents, putting you on hold for over 15 minutes, etc. - which results in a lot of unnecessary headaches. I also saw Dr. Henry on occasions when Dr. Hedley was called away from the office last minute. I didn’t feel nearly as comfortable with him; his bedside manner is very curt and rushed. I would highly recommend Dr. Hedley. I just can’t say the same about the rest of her practice.

Dr. Hedley herself is caring and thorough, though a little laid back. The front desk staff, however, are terribly rude, especially over the phone.

Although Dr Hedley is a wonderful Dr, I stopped going to her office for several reasons. The wait time was outrageous, even as the first appointment of the day you can wait easily 30 minutes to see her. But you can overlook that. What I couldn't over look was her rude, unhelpful office staff. Most of the time when I called the office they were not only unhelpful but just flat out rude and awful people to deal with. I haven't been to Dr Hedley's office in over a year when recently i received a call from collections. Her office staff was sending a bill to an old address of mine and instead of calling me (I know they have my phone on file as they would call to confirm appts) when they received the returned bill in the mail they forwarded it to collections! The ironic part is that having dealt with her office staff for a few years, it didn't surprise me that they were too lazy to call me to work out the bill, I would have gladly sent them a check immediately. Thanks to her lazy… office staff my perfect credit is now not so perfect. I would never go back to her office just to avoid having to not ever deal with her staff again.I have since found a Dr in the city with an office staff that is much easier and corporation to deal with.

I originally started going to this practice and seeing Dr. Kurt Christopher. He is awesome but very difficult to get an appointment with. So then I began to see Dr. Sean O. Henry and I could not be happier. Not only is he a great physician but he is also warm, kind and caring. I would recommend him to anyone. I've also seen Dr. Hedley for a procedure at St. Lukes-Roosevelt and she also left a great impression on me. I even worry about who I will see when I leave NY and am even considering coming into the city for my annuals just to be seen at this office.The only down fall is the short tempered supporting staff however, their short comings are made up ten fold by the great doctors.

Dr Hedley is a wonderful, warm doctor, who always takes the time with me. She delivered my daughter under difficult circumstances. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to friends. Unfortunately she is difficult to get an appointment with for annual visits, as she is very popular and the only female OB on staff. The admin staff are quite short with many people, but are very busy. Attitude of admin staff needs improvement, but it doesn't stop me seeing a great OB.
