Dr. Shawyntee Mireille Mayo, MD

We saw Dr. Mayo for my teen son who had been having issues of becoming faint and had previously (years ago) seen a cardiologist for murmur issues and was told to come back should this happen. Dr. Mayo and her staff spent a lot of time with him, but it basically boiled down to something that is normal in teens and is usually treated with diet (increased sodium, fluids). Due to a family history of early heart attack, they checked other things as well. The frustrating thing which made Dr. Mayo look bad is that they had some handouts to give which were last updated in 1996. It was basically a Times New Roman, poorly formatted, typed page of paper. Although it's not Dr. Mayo's responsibility to fix the materials provided, it should be known that the handout itself is what made us seek out a second opinion--because it was so poorly done. It hadn't been updated in over 20 years, the dietary info was from the 90s and related to items that teens just don't eat (I believe Grape Nuts cereal is… listed), etc. So whomever the practice administrator is, needs to do better as the resources harm the physicians. It's been about four months and while his fainting issues still exist (in spite of upping his sodium), we are hoping it's something he will grow out of.
