Dr. Sheila Marie Pottebaum, MD

Terrible therapist. I would not recommend Dr.Sheila Pottabaum to any family members or friends. The google reviews are extremely misleading. Not very compassionate and a terrible listener, she only seemed to be concerned with money instead of her patients.

She does not seem to care and tries to misdiagnose her patients. Lacks understanding of mental illness and is one of the most uncompassionate therapists I have ever had. UNHELPFUL and caused problems between my family and I.

Dr. Pottebaum does not listen and did not seem to care - not about other people, anyway. She did care about her money, and made several comments about her time and fees. The comments could have been made as statements, but her added snark and tone caused her to appear very selfish. She asked me several odd questions, and then cut me off without letting me answer, even waving her hand to signal me to stop talking. Dr. Pottebaum seems distracted and in a rush to get people in and out. I found her to be passive aggressive and manipulative. She didn't care about privacy or the privacy of other clients. She spoke about others to me, by name, and shared information about me with others without my knowledge or permission (I heard she often works with attorneys and courts, and information was not shared because of a court order or subpoena). I did not feel comfortable with her and I am an adult. I would be terrified to let children see her - especially young or innocent children, or… children who are unable to recognize their rights or defend their own beliefs. Please look somewhere else for care.

I know the title is drastic but I stand by it. She not only did very little in helping my child, she put him in harms way that has taken 10 years to dig out of.

She is awful. She doesn't listen to your concerns. We were just starting our separation and I told her I didn't feel comfortable having contact with my soon to be ex-husband. He was becoming more aggressive toward me and I was afraid for my daughter. She asked if he had hurt me. I told her not yet. She said, Oh you'll be fine. We had our 3/4 day parent switch a few weeks later and he got angry and physically assaulted me. She did not want to hear what I had to say nor did she care. I was stuck and so was my daughter, in this awful arrangement because of her.

I had a custody evaluation done by Dr Pottebaum. Two weeks before the evaluation that was court ordered I received a packet with approximatelyrics 10 consent forms. I didn't understand exactly what a few were and figured before signing I would just discuss the consents at our first appointment. In the initial paperwork it states you must be on time for appointments or you will be charged for extra time at $250/HR. I arrived at 10:24 aA for an 1130 appointment. I was brought back at 11:44 for a 1 hour appointment. I explained I had some questions about the consents and Dr pottebaum immediately and directly told me the consents were mandatory and I was court ordered to be here so if I didn't sign she would tell the judge I wouldn't comply. I explained I would sign but had questions is all. She said go ahead with your questions so I did and after 3 minutes she told me she didn't have time to answer any more questions. I was blown away by this. I said well I wanted to tell you… that I only have $700 of the $2200 today
