Hewlett-Packard Component Monitoring System (CMS) Sidestream CO2 Clinical Investigation is an industry sponsored clinical study being conducted by Sheldon H. Deluty, M.D. to obtain data for evaluating the equivalency and use of a new prototype sidestream CO2 measurement system. This may provide an alternative to the currently available mainstream measurement system, thereby enhancing the usability of the CMS platform for operating room function. The investigation was designed to obtain data for both Alpha and Beta clinical trial phases to be used as part of the compatibility verification necessary for FDA 510(K) notification and approval. In addition, the study was designed to assess clinician usability information for the purpose of potential product revision and improvement.

Gilbert Grant M.D.'s primary area of interest is the relief of labor pain, post-cesarean pain, and pain after other types of surgery. In this regard, he is interested in the pharmacology of analgesics (local …anesthetics, narcotics, and other non-narcotic analgesics) as well as analgesic techniques.

George T. Vaida, M.D., has three primary clinical interests. Regional anesthetics:looking into ways of safely prolonging the effect of the local anesthetics used for regional anesthesia (spinal, epidural) using high potency, high dose narcotics; and, pain control:using clinical knowledge and experience with the phantom pain in developing a new theory of pain; the human pain pathways and their modulation, genetic implications and clinical implications for the future.

Mark Zakowski, M.D. has examined the transfer, uptake and metabolism of anesthetic (narcotic) drugs in the human placenta.
