Dr. Shelly Mathur, MD

I have never had any of the problems that people reported on here. Some staff may be nicer than others, but I’ve never heard anyone be rude. I’ve never had to wait long. The doctor is very nice, concerned, and never seems rushed. I’m pleased with the amount of time she spends with me. The only complaint I have is that when I call to ask for a refill, it’s not always promptly taken care of, but I just call again.

I set up an appointment with Dr. Mathur via Zocdoc almost 3 weeks before the appointment. One of the office staff called me the morning of the appointment while on my way to my appointment. She said she needed my insurance information over the phone or I could wait until I got there to give it to her. However she told me it would take one to two hours to verify my insurance and I would not be seen until the insurance was verified. She said she had called me prior but no answer. When I checked my phone log from the number I had been no prior calls. I ended up having to cancel the appointment I had taken half a day of work to attend. In addition, the person who called seemed very uncaring or unconcerned. I understand we all need to be paid for our work but, if they couldn't get in contact with me by phone there is always email. Finally, I am a person who made this appointment out of need not recreation! She needs a more caring and efficient staff!!

I wish I had read google reviews before I came in. It appears they double book, take your copay and make you wait an hour. Zoc Doc said to arrive at Suite 303. On arrival, nobody was there to greet me and the receptionist window was closed and had rather patronizing note on it asking not to nock or open the window because of HIPPA and "we'll be with you shortly" OK. A couple of minutes later without anyone opening the window I noticed there was another note in a different corner that said "go to suite 304 first" So I went, paid my copay, came back and a few minutes later a woman in the window of Suite 303 gave me papers to fill out. I completed the papers and 20 minutes later a woman finally opened the window to talk to another patient waiting. I took this opportunity of the window being opened and asked her if I should return the forms and she said "Oh! Are you done already?" I said I was done a long time ago. 35 minutes after my scheduled appointment I see another patient form the… waiting area is called to see Dr Mathur. I asked the receptionist if I that meant I was not going to be seen until the Dr sees that patient and she said yes. That meant I won't be seen for another half an hour at least, so over an 1 hour form the scheduled time. This is not acceptable. I left as I had other commitments. I will be filing a complaint. There are other people noting the same problems on google reviews for this office. This is unethical, disorganized way of doing business and it is wrong.

I had privilige been seen by Dr Mathur when she was just anan Intern at Baylor (Dr Cuningham practice) I went with my daugther (now a Nutritionist) me having Diabetes 2. I ve been looking for her all arround since (now found finaly) as she is the BEST Diabetologist I ever found as a Patient : true knowledge, time spent with Patient, sincere care she shows, not looking for just $$$, CONGRATULATINS, happy found you after several years looking arround for you. Will book/establish again with you ASAP. HIGHLY RECOMEND, as other Patien wrote I agree : A TRUE HIDDEN GEM IN Internal Diabetic MEDICINE AND THE MEDICAL CENTER (HoustonTx)

Spends needed time with patient, no rush, no cliche fast junky medicine, she s very knowledgeable, I highly recommend her if you want a good Dr that cares. She A HIDDEN GEM in Houston Medical Center.
