Dr. Shirlann Denise Knight, MD

My son saw Dr. Knight after moving here from Texas. He was released from the hospital and was working to find the right combination of meds that worked to control his schizophrenia. She would only see him ever 3 weeks!!! She would not return his calls. Her way of treating him was to up his meds every time he called. He was a zombie. Then, when she changed his meds, he went through horrible withdrawal. She did not titrate him down at all, from the other medication that he was on, which was a very high dose. He called her and asked for help regarding anxiety. She did not call back. When he went to see her 3 weeks later, she was embarased because she had another person(fellow?nurse?) in the room with her. She refused to sign a paper for my son, stating that she could not read it. She said this to a person who has issued with delusions!!! It was perfectly legible. My son is now dead, due in part to her negligence. Doctors take an oath to do no harm. She does not care for her patients at… all. She should not be practicing. She is an egotistical, self centered, very dangerous person. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR SHE IS DANGEROUS!!!

As a new patient I brought in my bottles of prescriptions, explained that I needed refills and that it was a successful combination. She immediately told me that she would discontinue one RX & instead prescribe a mood stabilizer. She was condescending, dismissive, argumentative, unprofessional and rude. She asked questions yet would not let me answer - she interrupted, talked over me, changed question, told me I was wrong. That is just SOME of what I experienced She is a danger to anyone in her office seeking care.

Rude, ignored my questions, interrupted me constantly. I quit coming back after a couple of visits. She seems like she does not enjoy seeing patients.

Immediately confrontational. Kept interrupting me when I tried to answer her questions; then, belittled me for not answering the questions as she had expected me to. I did not expect to be verbally abused by a psychiatrist. She was yelling at me while I was walking down the hall to leave. All of the staff were staring and giving me sympathetic looks...Oh yeah, they had seen this before. Later, I called the practice to register a complaint with her supervisor. The Individual on the phone said that Dr Knight doesn't have a supervisor.....That makes a lot of sense to me. The receptionist did say that I could come back in, complete a written complaint (to who, I don't know) and then they would schedule me with a different psychiatrist. Overall, I consider myself a confident person who is going through a rough time in my life....It's been about a month since my experience with Dr Knight....Since then, I find myself thinking about her other patients(victims) and about the harm… she has inflicted upon them....I just don't understand how Dr Knight's abusive behavior is allowed to continue.

Left shaking and in tears while my Husband (the patient) had a manic episode due to the degrading and horrible treatment received by Dr. Shirlann Knight. The purpose of the new patient visit was to transfer his care from the Henderson mental health center in Florida to the Dayton Ohio area for continuation of care. We came completely prepared with all of his medical records on a cd provided by the Henderson clinic and all of his pill bottles. We arrived for our appointment 15 minutes early (appt was scheduled 2:45, we arrived at 2:30), we sat for two hours and watched numerous patients walk in much later and was treated. Finally I walked up and asked when we would be seen. The front desk personnel went to check and advised the doctor closed the door but that we would be up next. We then waited another 30 minutes and then was called back. Dr. Knight was extremely rude and completely uninterested in my Husbands condition or how he got to this place in life. She was argumentative,… and degraded my Husband during her “interrogation”. My husband suffers with bipolar and manic as well as seizures. On the facility website it lists her as a bipolar expert which is why I sought her out for my Husband. When I tried to tell the doctor about his past bipolar diagnosis she had no interest but instead started insinuating my Husband was depressed when at no point he told her that. When my husband would try to explain the shaking he was experiencing and the hallucinations and various symptoms the doctor had zero compassion or interest. I advised her that my Husband had an inpatient study scheduled 4/1 with his neurologist. She then said hatefully then I’m sure you have enough meds till then. I explained to her that we had waited 30 days to see her and that he had two days left of his psychiatric medication. She then asked to see the medication bottles. My husband pulled up the picture on his phone she rudely said I cannot look at your phone for privacy reasons! He said no problem I have them in a bag in the car. She slammed his folder looked my husband in his eyes and said “time is up, your not prepared, you will have to bring your medicine bottles another time”. My husband said “what”? I said they are in the car it will take me two seconds to get them, she said “You have to abide by the rules here, I’m out of time”. At that moment without a shadow of a doubt I knew this doctor was evil and full of malice and why I couldn’t tell you. I watched this doctor push buttons, belittle and shame my husband and purposefully pushed him into a manic state. And once she got him right where she wanted him she threatened to throw us out and when I tried to talk to the staff to find out who owned the practice and who I could file a complaint with the doctor kept standing in front of me and would not allow me to talk to the staff. She then lied and said she told my husband he could go get his meds. She lied right in front of the staff! She made them think we were crazy and upset over nothing. It was scary actually. The game she played with our minds and emotions was so evil at best. We came looking for help and answers and left feeling like throw always and trash on the side of the road. She had us right where she wanted us. We both were distraught and felt helpless seeing he was out of his meds in a couple of days. So we had to swallow our pride, Christian went down to the car and got the bottles as I cried in the wait room. And 15 minutes later the staff came out with a prescription for a 30 day supply. I pray for this woman. I pray that god touches her heart and that she has an awakening for some sort and realizes we are all gods people and all deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. As I left I looked at the doctor and I said god sees everything you did and how your treating people who are coming to you for help. I said god help you and we walked out.

After getting new insurance and my new PCP wanting me to see a psychiatrist for medication Dr. Knight was the only on available. I waited for 2 hours past my appointment time both times I visited her. Listening to other people in the waiting area this happens often. When I finally met with her she asked a bunch of questions which is normal but then when I was giving answers back she would tell me I was wrong or just completely dismiss me. I am hoping to have a baby with in the year and trying to ask her questions about how to plan a safe way to deal with medication she dismissed me. I told I did not want to be on medication while I was pregnant and she told me that would never be an option and then did not even tell me what medications I could take instead. She also would be rude comments on my dose of my medication as if I was bad for being on the dose. She was not helpful at all and really rude. I felt feeling awful and cried in my car. I am just looking for help and guidance and… medication safety.

Dr. Shirlynn Knight is the worst doctor I have ever experienced. She should not be practicing medicine of any kind, especially mental health. Dr. Knight was extremely rude and she tried to diagnose me with a mood disorder after only asking a series of yes or no questions. She continually cut me off while I was trying to speak or explain anything. She also completely dismissed my past diagnosis of ADHD, even though I had actually gone to a psychological clinic and went through multiple evaluations and testing before being diagnosed. I have some experience with mental health doctors and therapists, but I fear for those who do not as they are susceptible to major misdiagnosis or prescribed something they may not need.

Office waits were always at least 2 hours long for the 2 years I saw Dr. Knight. She over schedules and then spends 5 to 10 minutes with you. She does not listen, she is very arrogant. She uses her own personal opinions rather than factual medical information. Her office lost my chart twice ,both times I had to start as a "new patient" to her she had no recollection of me even though I have seen her monthly for over 2 years. She would ask me about the care she gave and then would get angry with me when I would tell her the plan of care SHE has had for me. her staff is constantly new and very rude and unprofessional. The nurses twice falsely documented vital signs on me that they never took on me. She tried to diagnose me with borderline hypertension from the false blood pressure reading. My blood pressure is always very low. When I informed her those were not accurate and my vitals were never taken she said I probably forgot. It is difficult to find a good psychiatrist and the wait… lists to get in can be 6 months to a year in some offices. So I stuck it out here because my family physician does not prescribe my ADD medications. It got so bad with this office that I just weaned myself off my medications with my family doctor until we can find a new psychiatrist.

I have never in my life met a physiatrist with so little regard for her patients or their mental health. She is rude, uncaring and unprofessional. Doesn’t listen to patients and prescribes medications that are not needed. Changes medications from ones that work to ones that cause more problems. Looking for a new doctor ASAP. Do not go to this doctor!!! She will make your anxiety worse!!!
