Dr. Shoba Lakshmi Subramanian, MD

Unfortunately this doctor was assigned to us when we needed an endocrinologist consult. She was 15 minutes late to a video appointment, was completely dismissive of my family members concern and diagnosis, she did not bother to explain why this diagnosis was being given when only 2 issues where checking the box for the diagnosis and then she did not even bother to explain what could be done to prevent complications. When we followed up with one question through the messaging app this doctor basically told us to speak to our PCP about it. She is supposed to be the specialist and really showed very little knowledge and MUCH MORE IMPORTANT, she showed very little care or concern to a young adult that was given a scary diagnosis.

Dr. Subramanian is a fabulous doctor! Great bedside manner, great attention to detail. She really gets to know her patients.

I have seen Dr Subramanian several times now to treat my Diabetes. Based on these visits, I have come to the conclusion that Shoba is not an ideal Endocrinologist. She seems to be just going through the motions, shows poor listening skills, and often seems at a loss about how to engage with a patent. I would not recommend using her unless you are an experienced diabetic and just need someone to to write prescriptions.

I have been to several endocrinologists and by far, she has a great bedside manner, is thorough and knowledgeable. After being at another endo, Dr Subramanian identified my issues, followed up and called me at home and was proactive in my care. I think she is a terrific doctor.

I appreciate the care I receive from this kind, knowledgeable woman. One of the best doctors in the Polyclinic.

I appreciated Dr. Subramanian from the moment we met. I was completely in shock after being given a diagnosis of diabetes from my primary care physician's nurse, over the phone. Dr. Subramanian saw me on incredibly short notice (2 days later), explained the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, why she believed that I have type 1, and how she would find out for sure. She was correct in her initial diagnosis, and has been incredibly supportive and patient in helping me deal with my new situation. She has never been pushy or rude, and always takes her time to explain things and answer my numerous questions. She is incredibly bright and actually listens. Under her supervision I have improved my sugar numbers, and reduced my A1C over 2% in 3 months. I do not wish diabetes on anyone, but if any of my friends needed an endocrinologist, I would send them to Dr. Subramanian right away!

Dr. Subranian sifted through 250 pages of medical history and consolidated the highlights. All my physicians had been blaming my muddled brain on menopause and my dizzy spells on adrenal insufficiency. Dr. Subramanian discovered that anemia was the culprit with a simple test. The University of Toronto's Neuroendocrine facility is on paar with that of Havard/MGH. Dr. Subramanian studied there under estimed neuro-scientists Ezzat and Asa. If you have a pituitary problem or multiple hormonal difficulties, Dr. Subramanian and her colleague (a Harvard-educated endo) are the best in town.

Even though she was aware of the patient's history, Dr. Shoba drove a recovering eating disorder patient to tears by telling her to restrict her calories and up her exercise level if she wanted to lose weight. She was completely uncaring and certainly not worth a second appointment. All of this great advice cost the patient $159 for the thyroid lab work and $325 for the very short, unproductive appointment. I would never recommend Dr. Shoba.
