Dr. Silvia Kaufmann-Carbia, MD

Dr. Kaufmann is an amazing doctor. She helped diagnose my daughter with a rare form of diabetes (that luckily doesn't require medication). We initially saw her at Phoenix Children's and have been seeing her every 4 to 6 months since 2009. We have never seen a nurse in place of the doctor. She has called after hours to explain details of lab work, when she didn't need to. The visits to her office are long and not because you're waiting in the lobby. She thoroughly examines my daughter and spends lots of time talking, explaining, and asking questions. I have noticed that it is "easier" to visit at the NW facility in Arrowhead over the main campus though. Overall, a truly wonderful doctor. We are super sad to be losing her when we move.

Dr. Kaufman came highly recommended to us for our daughter's endocrine issue. We had a good initial consult where she prescribed a medication that she thought would be helpful. We never saw her after e consult, as we were passed off to the nurses (they changed monthly, should have been a sign) for the remainder of her treatment. Our daughter had adverse reactions to the medication on 2 occasions, both resulting in abscesses. The first time I contacted her office and the nurse explained it was a side effect, though very rare. The second time, I called her office and wanted to speak directly with Dr. Kaufmansince our pediatrician and the head of endocrine at PCH both thought the abscess might be MRSA. It took an hour of calling her office and contacting the head of her department again to get a phone call and her response to such an extremely rare and very painful condition was flippant at best. Sadly, the compounding pharmacy that filled the prescription each month gave us better… follow up (the pharmacist called after each dose to check on side effects) and service. Dr. Kaufman lacks compassion, at best. It appears that she is ot interested in actuall seeing patients herself, but still billing as if she were the one treating my child. I would not recommend her at all based on our 6 month experience with her.

Dr. Kaufmann is the best Endo in phx. She took very good care of our son for the last 3 years. We were very sad to move knowing we would have to try and find someone else with the same standards. We HIGHLY recommend her!!!
