Dr. Smit C Vasaiwala, MD

During a ablation procedure Dr Vasaiwala nicked a artery causing great pain and bruising in my groin . After 3 weeks of pain 3 visits to the ER and a five day stay in the hospital I am finally starting to feel better. Dr Vasaiwala knew of my condition and never followed up to see how I was doing. He just doesn’t care. Then after waiting a month for a follow up visit I get a call that he wants to reschedule for another month. Avoid this doctor like the plague!

I have been an ICD patient at Loyola for many years. In that time I have benefitted from the excellent care by Mary Toon RN and other staff members in the Pacemaker Lab. I've been a patient of Dr. Smit Vasaiwala MD and know him to be a brilliant and proactive doctor and a hard-working leader in the EP department. I highly recommend Dr Vasaiwala for those who need cardiac care. He is extremely busy but will answer questions thoroughly, so be prepared and bring a list for your visit.

Was having multiple shocks from my defibrillator. Dr v and his team saved my life. Amazing bedside manner is a nice plus.

The doctor spent more time discussing legal liability rather than discussing my ablation. Never checked my ICD programming, otherwise his boss would not have found that my ICD wasn't completely setup or set up correctly. Flatlined during ablation after doctor said "turn up the juice and lets see what happens". Crash team spent hours working on me to revive me. I get that accidents happen. But the doctor was more concerned about being sued than my patient care.

I was referred specifically to Dr. Vasaiwala by a cardiologist in Geneva, Il. What a gift! Dr. Vasaiwala was very detailed in his explanation as to what needed to be done. On the day of the procedure, my wife told me that Dr. V. spent a LOT of time explaining AND drawing pictures of what he had done. He also wrote down a step-by-step plan of what would happen next. After the first procedure, there was another procedure because he wanted to be sure the skipped beats were due to the heart and not another condition. Again, he took a LOT of time talking to me and my wife about the procedure...even relating a funny family story! I was so lucky to be in such good hands throughout this journey! He not only is knowledgeable about the heart and what steps need to be taken, but is very thorough! It is a rare find to have a "complete package" in a doctor. His expertise plus his good-natured relationships with patients make him someone I would highly recommend! He's the best!!

I checked in fifteen minutes prior to my appointment(s) at the Loyola Center for Heart and Vascular Medicine to ensure that my insurance documents and personal information were up to date. My first appointment was with the Pacemaker lab which occurred on time and the attending nurse Mary Toon did an outstanding job explaining to me my scan results and the adjustments that she made to my device. In this session every effort was made to communicate the data to me in a manner that I could understand. She then escorted to me to my next appointment and reviewed her findings with Dr. Vasaiwala prior to our appointment. My second appointment was with Dr. Smit C. Vasaiwala, MD Cardiac Electrophysiology who spent a significant amount of time reviewing my medical condition, possible cause(s) and explained in great detail the recommended procedure(s) to address my problems. During this session my wife was in attendance and I appreciated the time Dr. Vasaiwala and his associate Dr. Reddy… took to answer her questions and address her concerns. After reviewing in depth the options that were available to address my problem[s] we agreed on a course of treatment. Once we understood the problems that I was experiencing I agreed to go forward with the recommended treatment. I completed the required lab work and Dr. Vasaiwala's nurse Charis Habercoss provided me with written pre and post procedure treatment instructions. She reviewed these instructions very carefully to make sure that I understood them and answered all my questions. I was extremely pleased with how this appointment was handled by all those involved and highly recommend Dr. Vasaiwala and the staff of Loyola's Center for Heart and Vascular Medicine.

Did everything possible to help avoid open heart surgery on me. Worked, and now I feel great!!

My experience with Dr. Vasaiwalla is negative overall. A simple ablation procedure sent my heart into cardiac arrest, where a team of other medical staff needed to save my life. An outpatient procedure that landed me in the hospital for over a week and a half. During that time, Dr. Vasaiwalla was absent. The team of cardiologists seemed to hold back information about my procedure, as if scared to reveal any medical information to me. I will never again go to this doctor or Loyola for any medical care!

I love Dr Vasaiwala. He is a lovely man who answers all of your questions in detail. He is funny and really puts you at ease. He is very knowledgeable and I have conplete confidence in him. He performed 2 ablations on me and I am sure that I am 100% better. He can even draw you pictures of your proceedure. What a guy.

I would recommend Dr. Vasaiwala to anybody that has heart rhythm problems. He is very skilled and has excellent bed side manners. Answered all the questions we had regarding my heart condition and the planned ablation procedure.
