Dr. Smita Gautam, MD

We have tried to avoid medicating our daughter. Dr Gautam is a terrific psychiatrist for hesitant families. She took her time with evaluations. In fact, I think there was an extra appointment. The prescribing appointment was very thorough because she didn’t want to prescribe a medication anyone had preconceived notions about. She started with the smallest dose possible and took her time increasing it even though other providers were recommending upping the dose. The advantage was that my daughter developed some side effects that she was able to get used to and/or override during the 6 weeks before the dose increase. If the dose had been upped 2 or 3 weeks into treatment, I think my daughter would have failed the drug. Dr Gautam always takes time to listen and consider. She can handle little things via email.

She's rude, condescending and unpleasant. Snapped at the receptionist over something minor in front of me before my first appointment. She made me feel stressed out and uncomfortable during my appointments.
