Summary
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1963, the son of a missionary and fluent in both English and French, Dr. Fontus has traveled extensively in Africa, Europe, Asia, the West Indies and the United States. Now, a citizen of the U.S.A., Dr. Fontus affinity for Oregon first developed in his premed days as a college student in The Dalles (1981-83). From there he attended the University of Minnesota for his Bachelor of Science degree (1983-85) and received his degree as a Doctor of Medicine from Howard University, Washington, D.C. (1985-89). His surgical residency was performed at the University of Hawaii (1989-94). For FHP, Inc. (1994-96) he worked in the Asial Pacific Region. He ultimately returned to Oregon taking the position of General Surgeon at Cottage Grove Hospital (1997-98).
Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Fontus is licensed to practice in Oregon, Hawaii, Washington, Florida and the Territory of Guam. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society …(1992) and is an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
