Dr. Sofronio Almonte Basical, MD

I am pleased to have the opportunity to present my credentials and share other information about myself to you. It is very important that you feel comfortable with your child's personal physician, and I hope this page will help you start to get to know me.

Biography
I am a native Southern Californian who grew up in the Los Angeles County hospital system. My desire to pursue a career in medicine arose from this experience. I knew that I wanted to be able to make a real difference in people's lives, and practicing medicine gives me that opportunity. Prior to working at Kaiser Permanente, I worked for the National Health Service Corps for three years and served the underprivileged population in Connecticut and East Los Angeles. My desire to pursue a career in pediatrics arose from my lifelong interest in children. Not only am I able to take care of their medical needs, but, I am also able to witness their physical, emotional, and social growth. This makes pediatrics a most rewarding …profession.

About my practice
Medicine as a career is a very special opportunity to connect and help people in a meaningful way. It is a privilege to help patients and parents understand what concerns them, translate what they may not grasp, facilitate getting them the appropriate evaluations, and to communicate with them and their families. With Kaiser Permanente's automated medical record system, access to patient's medical information is fast.

How I thrive
My family life is my major priority. I enjoy our family vacations to the national parks, especially Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks. My wife, four sons and I enjoy camping trips to the local beaches. I try to remain active by running at least three times per week and by going to the local 24-hour fitness gym with my wife and two older sons. Recently, I have been learning to snowboard along with my children.
