Dr. Sonali Parekh Desai, MD

My experience with Dr. Desai has always been positive. She always listens to me and offers suggestions to help me control my RA, never dismissing my concerns. She is very caring and competent and has never been late for appointments. In fact, she has always accomodated my work schedule by seeing me at my convenience. I couldn't ask for a better doctor.

After a 45 minute wait, she apologized and I was ushered into her office. She rushed through my medications and test results, seeming a bit exasperated when I had questions about her interpretations of test results. She did an extremely brief, cursory physical exam and made a skeptical face when I answered questions. She seemed very critical and superior about any kind of illness that was not straight forward conventional western medicine, and was dismissive of my physical symptoms. She told me to eat well and exercise to manage the symptoms of fibromyalgia, and said that any medications to treat it had side effects and didn't do much. It led me to believe she didn't think much of this diagnosis. It probably seems very easy when you are completely healthy to tell someone else with terrible fatigue to exercise their way out of something. I got the impression that she was the young, fresh out of med school doctor who thinks they have it all figured out and have nothing to learn from… anyone else. I have seen far better and more sympathetic rheumatologists.
