Dr. Sonia Ashish-Mishra, MD

I’m a Black Female 57 year old Army Veteran. I’ve have been a patient of Dr. Mishra for the past 10 years. Under her practice, my mental health as slowly declined and has been the worst I’ve ever experienced. Dr. Mishra absolutely does not have any empathy for her patients. Although she has over twenty years of psychiatric experience, she lacks a complete understanding of an individual’s condition as it pertains to the their “whole personality, cultural identity and their past and present life experiences.’ She is a scientist by far and is only concerned with ‘ by the book protocols.’ I was diagnosed in 1996 with Bi-polar I disorder, General Anxiety Disorder, and in 2010 Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I’ve been in an out of Voluntary, Psychiatric Hospitalizations for medication stability and suicidal ideations. In 2010 I was awarded social security disability benefits because the illness made it impossible for me to work. In June, 2022, Dr. Mishra took me off of an antipsychotic… drug because I had developed TD. She failed to put me on something else that was similar to that drug. Since then, my mental health has steadily declined. My mood has since been stabilized. But now, the main and most troubling conditions are anxiety disorder, insomnia and PTSD. From September through December 2022, I had to involuntarily admit myself into the hospital for psychiatric treatment and medication stability. Another medication that she stopped was Lorazepam. She said that I had become too dependent on the substance. She didn’t offer a solution to how I should deal with the anxiety and failed to give me any anti-anxiety medication without ‘MY’ request for them. I tried the substitutes for now 7 months and they have failed to work. I again suggested another anti-anxiety medication and she obliged. Still I am still suffering. I also have sincere insomnia because of racing thoughts that are not controlled under this current medication regiment I have been begging for her to help me because all these mental ailments are now affecting my physical ability and my ability to function and perform menial daily tasks. She prescribed, without discussing it with me, a nerve medication that she claims works for anxiety. Nevertheless, I messaged her ( by the way the only correspondences I have had with her as been through messages via a veterans website portal), and told her that I had previously been prescribed this medication by my VA Primary physician for paiin. I further explained that this medication did not help treat the pain and it had in-fact worsened my depression. I’ve also told her the many various natural supplements I’ve tried, along with good sleep hygiene and Nidra Yoga guided meditation for insomnia. She has failed to respond and it has been well over the required response time. This isn’t the first time she has ignored my messages. I’ve also beg her to put me back on the Lorazepam. I told her that the anxiety is somewhat suppressed but it is relevant again when I’m attempting to sleep because of the nonstop racing thoughts which prevents me from sleeping. Additionally, afterlaying there for at least 3 hours to sleep, I constantly wake up during the night. I asked her what does she NOW recommend and begged her for help because I can’t go on like this anymore. She has yet to respond. Also, she ‘coincidentally’ cancelled our April 4, 2023face to face appointment. I find her to be neglectful and biased!

I know doctors have a set amount of time for each patient, but I always feel like I'm on a countdown as soon as my butt hits the chair. She has been helpful at times but when the doctor has no more solutions the patient begins to wonder why they are there.
