Dr. Sonia G. Geschwindt, MD

I was diagnosed with APL Leukemia shortly after my first spinal fusion a couple of days later (the second one fusion 4 months later after grueling pain from the screws all coming loose after the first one and multiple visits to the ER and her office to no avail during those months and becoming addicted to the Fentanyl she kept prescribing). I was told by her the surgery was being delayed due to my low platelet count and after being reassured the blood bank there had enough platelets, she proceeded. She should never had performed this surgery until the cause of the low platelet count was determined. It was a voluntary procedure for me and could have been postponed. A few days after the first fusion I was unable to walk and a scan revealed a blood clot that was pressuring the nerve, so back into surgery I went to drain it and had a drain inserted to keep the area draining. The second fusion was diagnosed by general physician who read the ct scan she ordered and it was determined I had… fluid on my spine and I went back there and was operated that night. I regret having seen her. She should have diagnosed the leukemia immediately. I was a laboratory technician in undergraduate school and we all knew what leukemic differential slides looked like.

She has performed two different (lower spine and neck) procedures on me. The hospital staff, her staff and she were all wonderful. She is obviously intelligent, knowledgeable and highly capable. More than that, she is a warm caring person. I can’t speak highly enough about her.

My husband was in ICU with complications from a failed surgery in Green Bay. Dr. Geschwindt stepped in and saved his life. Her and her PA were on top of his case at all times (he was in the ICU for a month) and were incredibly kind and compassionate. My husband’s medical issues were complicated and her and her team always took the time to explain them to me. He could have easily died or easily been fully paralyzed, but neither of those things happened. I would put my life in her hands without hesitation.

I was nervous and was told only to see another Dr but he was gone. She explained everything COMPLETELY. After my surgery she talked to my family and also explained everything in detail. My family was very happy with her too.. Would recommend her to anyone!

I decided to jump off Dead River Falls to celebrate my 60th birthday. I broke T 7-12 and she performed my emergency surgery. She was amazing! An incredibly bright and professional woman. I am so thankful that I was under her care. Since this happened, she has been great in aftercare and follow-up visits. If you're going to take a risk in a remote area in Marquette, I hope it goes better for you than it did for me. If not, I hope Dr. Geschwindt is on call. She's the best! C. Schuil.

Most of the office visits are with her Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner who look very professional but never take any notes when you explain post surgical problems.
