Dr. Sonia Quinones Scheerer, DDS

Dr. Sonia Scheerergraduated from North Kansas City High School in 1982 and also from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, School of Dentistry in 1993.  She then joined the United States Navy in 1993 where she graduated from Officer Indoctrination School.  Sonia practiced general dentistry while in the military in Newport, Rhode Island in 1993-94 and  Camp LeJeune, Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1994-97.  While in the Navy, Dr. Scheerer was selected No. 1 for the United States Navy for an out-service postgraduate residency program in Endodontics in 1997.  She received her certificate in Endodontics and a Master's of Science from the University of Detroit-Mercy in 1999.  In 1999-2002 Dr. Scheerer completed a three year overseas tour in Naples, Italy, as the Department Head of Endodontics for all the military, NATO forces and family members in Southern Europe.
Dr. Scheerer gave an oral research presentation named "A Comparative Evaluation of Three Root End Filling Materials: An …In-Vitro Study Using Provetella Nigrescens" which was ranked as one of the top ten presented by graduate students at the 57th Annual Session of the American Association of Endodontists in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2000.
Dr. Scheerer has passed Part I of the written test for the American Board of Endodontists and is currently working towards Board Certification.  She has published a scientific paper in the Journal of Endodontics, in the 2000 January issue.  Dr. Scheerer is currently teaching endodontics part-time at the University of Missouri in  Kansas City-School of Dentistry. 
She has been blessed to be married to Wayne Scheerer for twenty six years and has two grown children: Nicholas and Lauren.  Nicholas is active duty in the United States Air Force and stationed in Okinawa, Japan.  Lauren graduated from the University of Kansas and is now attending graduate school at Rockhurst University for a Master's in Speech Pathology.  Dr. Scheerer enjoys traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
