Dr. Sonja Olsen, MD

No way to ever reach the doctor outside of the appointment - the NYU system does not give her messages or she just ignores them. Hard to make an appointment. Doctor is consistently 35-40 late. I do not recommend this doctor.

I can only say that the staff at this office is incompetent and put the health of patients in danger. I waited 4 months for an appointment to follow up with Dr Olsen on my liver issues and they cancelled last minute saying dr Olsen can no longer see me, I need to see a GP. After about 15 calls they re-scheduled me in another 3 months with a junior doctor that has no specialization in liver.

I can''t give enough stars for Dr. Olsen. I have never met a more skilled, kind, and compassionate physician before. Not only is she clinically superior to any other physician I have worked with previously, she genuinely cares. I am so grateful to have found her.

Yeh first visit she seemed like she’s interested. Since than all I get is her repetitive answers and disinterested lazy attitude. When your sick you want a doctor who will go on the lim for you. She wants bare minimum. Would not recommend in search for someone else.

Dr. Sonja Olsen is an outstanding doctor who is top in her field of gastroenterology with the knowledge and skills. Combine her expertise with true caring and knowledge of the patient overall and she is one of the best doctors in NYC. We've been to many of the top doctors in NYC and Dr. Olsen stands with the best of the best. You can trust your life with her and her capabilities. We read the first review in this group. We're sorry for her loss and enduring a nightmare no one should have to experience. All we can say is that our results with Dr. Olsen has been extraordinary. If you are reviewing doctors, consider seeing for yourself what Dr. Olsen can do for you or your loved one.

I wish I could give this doctor a higher rating, but the truth is the bungling that went on during my husband's final days was beyond belief, and then, after he died, the only contact I received was a form letter addressed to my deceased husband from Dr. Olsen who was moving her practice. In short: My husband was Dr. Olsen's patient, but due to distance he had a local doctor who coordinated with Dr. Olsen as well. I knew my husband was dying, and in repeated phone-calls with Dr. Olsen, she told me "It's fixable! I don't know why you're upset! It's all fixable!" FINALLY, our local doctor got Weill-Cornell to agree to come get him. They never showed up. The doctors in our local hospital were as distraught as I was. They tried frantically to get Dr. Olsen to admit him, but we were given not just a runaround, but repeated phone assurances "It's fixable!" Then I was told by her, "We can't do anything anyway, until his pneumonia is cured." The thing is, his pulmonologist--who actually SAW… HIM-- told me he did NOT have pneumonia. He had nothing more than asthmatic bronchitis and considering that Weill-Cornell could do double lung transplants in addition to liver transplants she was stunned that Dr. Olsen kept dismissing Jed's need to be admitted. Then Dr. Olsen went on vacation. Understandable, but she assured me that the doctor on call knew Jed's case and that everything was "fixable" and essentially I was getting hysterical over nothing. He continued to deteriorate and died. This was all in the span of the two weeks Dr. Olsen kept insisting "it's fixable" and I was just over=reacting. The doctors and nurses were crying as Jed died in intensive care, and his pulmonologist told me she specifically told Dr. Olsen he did not have pnemonia, his liver was failing, and that Dr. Olsen needed to admit him. She said Dr. Olsen wouldn't listen. Then to not even receive a phone call told me everything I needed to know. Furthermore, while she was seeing Jed regularly she told us a test came out one way and then waited weeks to tell us they had put the numbers in the wrong column and, in fact, it was the opposite of what she'd said. And she and her assistant kept confusing the dosage of Jed's medication and he identified the problem and had to straighten it out. Of course, ultimately none of that mattered because he was gone.

I met with Dr. Olsen for the first time today and she was amazing. Not only did she listen to my problem, study my blood work and prior endoscopy but she heard me out in re to my many medical issues and made some astute observations. She spent an hour with me. When does that ever happen? She is thorough, knowledgeable and caring. All doctors should be held up to her standards. Unfortunately, most would fail.

Dr. Sonja Olsen is an amazing doctor who cares for all of her patients. My husband had the best care from Dr. Olsen. She cares beyond the doctor/patient relationship. She is smart, really took time to explain everything as clear as possible. She reall made us feel safe and cared for. I give high praise to Dr. Sonja Olsen. You will be in great hands.

I have only good words to say about Dr Olsen, and was lucky enough to be treated by her. She is very professional, and extremely knowledgeable in her field. Unlike some Dr's, Dr Olsen manages to form a real connection with the patient. I appreciated her ability to see me as a human being, and not just another liver case. She went above and beyond what I expect from a physician throughout the course of my treatment, and made herself available to my family and I for any questions or concerns even after the treatment. A delightful person, and a wonderful physician!

Weill Cornell transplant program is failing. Please research other hospitals and options. With enormous egos, Dr. Olsen and her "team" care more about themselves than their patient. Non-responsive to patients needs and requests. Due to this attitude, their transplant program is failing to get off the ground.
