Dr. Amory received his medical training from Johns Hopkins and Columbia Universities. He developed techniques in laparoscopic cholecystectomy that enabled his group to have the lowest open cholecystectomy rates in the state. In addition, Dr. Amory has earned a reputation for his diagnostic acumen in complex surgical problems and for highly individualized and personalized care. In recognition of his exceptional care of patients, collegiality with peers, and outstanding outcomes, Dr. Amory was awarded the the 2014 Jerry Gliklich Award for Exemplary Clinical Care, formerly "Practitioner of the Year" award, by the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center Society of Practitioners.

Dr. Spencer Amory was highly recommended by my internist to repair my inguinal hernia. It was my first surgery ever and I was frankly nervous. Upon meeting Dr. Amory for my examination, he was very thorough, personable and his caring manner put me at ease. I felt very reassured and immediately knew I met a doctor that cared about his patients in a special way. On the day of my surgery, he greeted me warmly, introduced me to the anesthesiologist and the rest of his team. My confidence in him, helped me a great deal. My surgery went smoothly and he came to see me in recovery. I went home 2 hours after the procedure. Ten days later, I saw Dr. Amory for my follow up and it was a pleasure to see him again. My recovery has been wonderful, like Him. I am very grateful to have had him for my surgery. He’s a special man with a heart of gold and a most talented and experienced surgeon. Thank you Dr. Amory.

Excellent surgeon...I had a great experience. This was my 2nd surgery with Dr Amory. I would highly recommend him. His staff was equally effective and pleasant. Thank you for the care I received.

I was extremly concerned for my daughter having to have such an operation. However,after meeting Dr.Amory,and speaking with him I found him to be a very approaceable,concerned,gentle Physician. Frankly, I didn't believe doctors like that existed any more! But he proved me wrong,and made me believe again. Although,its like finding a needle in a haystack. Thank you Dr.Amory for taking excellent care of my daughter.

Dr. Amory is an ideal - he puts one's mind and heart at ease, and is above all a gentleman and amazing at what he does. I was grateful to have him as my surgeon for an umbilical hernia, and felt completely cared for. In an age of the "hurried physician," Dr. Amory is an anomaly - and a welcome one, at that!
