Dr. Spirithoula Debbie Vasilopoulos, MD

I was diagnosed with CKD 3 years ago (to my horror). The nephrologist I was seeing left the group so I continued follow ups with my primary care doctor. I decided that it was in my best interest to return to the group and saw a nephrologist who just joined the practice. Her name is Dr. Vasilopoulos and she was wonderful. She spent time with me going over my history and my records from the previous nephrologist as well as from my primary care doctor. She ordered a panel (blood work) to check all the necessary tests to make sure everything is fine. Her personality was warm, caring, and friendly. She answered all my questions and is having me come back in 3 weeks for a follow up to discuss the results of the blood work. She could’ve easily called me on the phone or sent me an email but wanted me to come in so as to go over everything in person (which) I heartily agreed. After my appointment with Dr. V I left feeling a weight was lifted off my shoulders and grateful to have such a… intelligent and thorough doctor taking care of me.

Dr. V is very knowledgeable and she is the reason my mom was able to live as long as she did. While treated by other Drs, with little improvement , once we became Dr. V patient, my mothers kidney function improved immensely. My family is very grateful we found Dr. V. I cannot sing her praise loud enough and I highly recommend her. Wonderful caring Doctor.

Dr Vasilopoulos is the most caring Dr I have ever been to. She is incredibly smart and will do her best. She listens and reacts as a total professional. I highly recommend her.

When a health issue was discovered that is not usually treated @ JMCGH she arranged for addition treatment to be done @ Vanderbilt Clinic, Nashville. This was a good choice due to my seeing a specialist that treats this specific condition and having the advance equipment, staff, etc. that might not be available at other centers. She seems knowledgeable about resources available in surrounding areas.

The best and most knowledgeable doctor I know.She is the cream of the crop-bar none.

Dr V worked tirelessly to find out why I was ill. She was the most intelligent and caring doctor I've ever been to. She is outstanding!

Dr. Vasilopoulos has been wonderful! Her care and concern and thoroughness has led to some important other medical issues I am in the process of having corrected. You really could not ask for better!! She's young, but give her a chance. She really wants to do a good job and tries hard.

Dr. Vasilopoulos clearly does not have enough experience as a nephrologist. Her bedside manner is horrendous. When she speaks to her patients it sounds like she is rehearsing something she memorized out of a textbook. She is one of the most pessimistic physicians I have ever met. One morning she called me to tell me that my condition would never improve and I should be prepared for dialysis. My kidneys have improved by 7% already, and they remain stable.Also, she referred me to see a specialist affiliated with another hospital because she supposedly did a fellowship/internship under him. When I asked the specialist about her, he bluntly stated that he had never heard of her. That to me was very alarming.Although I have had several difficult experiences with this physician, I suggest that anyone whas has been diagnosed with kidney disease to definitely seek treatment from another nephrologist who is not practicing in the Torrington, CT area.
