Dr. Sriram Choudary Perni, MD

I wish I could fit everything that happened to me in this box, but there was so much that I still cannot wrap my head around still. I would like to note that the Ultrasound techs there are amazing all the way until the end and this is no way reflects them. The first time I say Dr Perni was early in my first trimester. I was sent to him because I had previous surgeries due to IBD. MY OB Gyn was from another office and it was discussed early on that I would eventually be transferred to Dr Perni around 32 weeks because she did not deliver at St V's. When I first met him I thought he was very nice and easy to talk to. We went over my medical history and my pregnancy looked good and I was not experiencing any health issues. We agreed on my care and that I would have no choice but to have a scheduled c section and I would need a GI surgeon in the room as back up. All seemed good. I was transferred to Dr Perni and the MFM office at 32 weeks as was planned. This is when the issues started. My… OB was no longer seeing me ( I was seeing the OB once a week starting around 28 weeks due to being high risk) and I was told that I would be transferred, meet the OB Gyn that would handle my care, set up a plan and schedule a c section. I was also told by my original office that I need to make sure they set me up for weekly appts. This did not happen. I went in for a scheduled ultrasound at 33 weeks and afterwards I tried to schedule an appt to meet with the OG Gyn that would take over my care. I was told they do not do weekly check ups and i would be seen in 3 weeks for my next ultrasound only. I knew this was not right so I asked her to talk to Dr Perni. The ultrasound tech came back and again said that they do not do this. I had my original Dr office call his office and I was then told that they were looking for an OB Gyn and GI surgeon and to call back the following week to set up an appt to see them. I was told the OB Gyn would see me the following week. I called back the following week (34 weeks) and was told that they were having a hard time because there was no GI surgeon that comes to St V's. This didn't sound right to me. Why was this not looked into earlier? Later that week they had a General surgeon and OB Gyn scheduled for me to meet, but I would have to wait 2 weeks to meet the General and 3 weeks to meet the OB Gyn. Mind you this means no check ups for 3 weeks because I technically have no OB Gyn and I am high risk and almost 35 weeks! I said I needed to be seen earlier and they said I would have to speak with Dr Perni. I called almost daily and left messages for him to call me but he never called me back. He did finally call me almost 3 weeks later but his call went straight to my voice mail. I heard my phone beep saying I missed a call and had a voicemail of Dr Perni asking me to call him back. This was at 3:50pm. I called him back it was 3:51pm and it went to the hospital answering service (I had this happen multiple times over the last 3 weeks) and they said his office closed at 1 pm and it couldn't have been him that called even though it was the offices number on my phone, time stamped and his voice on the voicemail. I asked them to please call into his office because he was there. When they called his partner Jean-Pierre answered and said Perni was there and he would talk to him and have him call me back. I waited 10-15 minutes and the answering service called me and said Dr Pierre talked to Perni and that Perni said to call him back that following Monday. I was so upset. I didn't see the point in calling anymore because he had strung me along all the way to my 3 week appt. I did call that Monday and he answered. He was very rude/arrogant and even told me he doesn't talk to people on the phone because he is busy. I spent many years with some of the best surgeons a the Cleveland Clinic and they could call you within 48 hours and see you within a week or earlier so this was not a good excuse to me. He made numerous rude comments about Cleveland Clinic, mentioned that he was from Cambridge.....blah blah blah. He belittled me for more than 30 minutes on the phone. During my 1st trimester it was discussed that due to my current complications and previous issues with surgeries that I should not go into labor. Even my Cleve Clinic doctors told me this. That I would deliver earlier in hopes of avoiding labor. Now I found out for the first time that it was a state law (for the past 3 years) that no c-sections can be scheduled before 37 weeks. Not for any reason! My sis in law had gone to there office (under Pierre) only a year ago and her csection was scheduled for 37 weeks. I told him this and he looked her up and at first tried to say she didnt ever go there ( I went to an appt with her so I knew she had) then he did find her and said she was not scheduled for 37 weeks. He told me the spelling of her name and veen what her OPb's name was (HIPPA?). I ignored him and got absolutely no where in the conversation. I saw him the next day after my ultrasound. I was suppose to meet with their genetics specialist (no idea why) but instead he met with me and my husband. He now claimed that his office never said anything about delivering early and that they always start the planning at 36 weeks and no sooner. So I was right on time. He also claimed that OB Gyn's see women too much and even though I had not seen a Dr in 4 weeks and would not have any checkups for the remainder of my pregnancy, that this was normal. First doctor that had ever said that to me, all other Drs said check ups increase as you get closer to delivery. After telling me how wonderful he was he then proceeded to tell me that he had followed my case very closely and that all was planned properly. Yet in the next sentence he told me I was completely normal and healthy (if this is the case then why was I seeing an MFM?). He couldnt unde

Due to the nature of his practice, I understand Dr. Perni often has the responsibility of delivering tragic news- as was the case with our situation. However, even before our diagnosis, it was very difficult to get test results and I found certain members of his staff to be unfriendly and difficult. One staff member appeared to have visible hygiene issues during each of my visits. Phone calls were not returned in a timely manner and when calls were returned, I felt as though the staff seemed very inconvenienced. Fast forward to our diagnosis- fatal to our daughter and devastating to our family. During the second consultation he was unwilling to read any of the literature I had accumulated and simply stated that if I needed further assistance- I could travel to a Children's hospital in southern Ohio for the same battery of tests we had just endured. When we asked what this second opinion would offer us- he could not tell us what treatment options this hospital had available or if they… were even a fetal treatment center. His closing comment to me was that as a 39 year old maternity patient- if I needed help managing my blood sugar or blood pressure- he was the doctor for me- other than that- he could not help. I found him to be difficult to communicate with, combative, confrontational and lacking in even the slightest bit of human compassion.

Has failed to maintain and contact me on numerous occasions on my lab results. I had to be the one chasing down him and his office staff for medication adjustment per lab results. It has been 7 days ago that I completed my labs, I called them 3 days in a row - their answer was that they will call me back. Don't trust them because every time they said they would call me back, they never do!!!! Not going back there again @ 35 weeks.
