Surgically sutured and stinted in a latex catheter in me, and I have a known latex allergy as noted in ALL my medical records. I have stage 4 cancer, and pain is horrendous. This added latex inflammation and pain is beyond description. I will now have to go to another surgeon to have this latex mess removed and a supra bag put in (which is what Kandzari should have done in the first place). I has been assured that there was ZERO latex anywhere within the entire hospital. I asked several times, as I have a severe contact allergy to latex (blisters, swelling, bleeding with contact). Every hospital employee told me the hospital was 100% latex free! Apparently not, since I now have this latex nightmare sutured and stinted inside me. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for such gross negligence. How hard is it to READ a chart? Shouldn't allergies be the FIRST thing any surgeon should look for? Or could it be because I have stage 4 cancer that they KNOW I won't live long enough to sue them… myself??? The surgeon is over 80 years old also. No offense to the elderly, but he should have retired long ago. Worse, after I found out it was latex, the entire urology department refused to visit my room! I had so many unanswered questions. Not just about the latex, but questions like: if I could use a sitz bath; what could I take for inflammation until I get this latex surgically removed; and even how to use the catheter bag. I had to watch a bleeping youtube video to find out how to even empty the urine bag! What a nightmare. I kept asking the nursing staff to tell someone ANYONE from the urology department that I needed to speak with them and had many questions. But no-one from urology would come to my room for the several days I was in the hospital after surgical packing had been removed and one young intern (or student) admitted it was latex and showed me the tag (which another intern or student grabbed from his hand and quickly shoved him out of the room). They wanted to cover up the huge mistake and then refused to speak with me!!! Terminal cancer is bad enough. But to have all this added pain, suffering, inflammation, and stress from this burning latex nightmare inside me on top of it? Unforgivable. It was so easily avoidable had he just read the darn chart! I'd even have forgiven him had he apologized or even bothered to tell me WHY he used a latex catheter at all (under any circumstance, much less in a patient with a latex allergy). But they dropped me like a hot potato and refused to speak with me. No forgiveness now... he doesn't deserve it. I suppose he thinks since I've got less than 5 months to live that I can't sure him so he's not worried about it? I'd say "God have mercy on his soul", but someone better than I will have to say it. This easily avoidable mistake has caused my final days to be more excruciatingly painful than they already were from the cancer. And not even an apology? Not even a visit to my room for the rest of the week I was in the hospital? Pure EVIL. Do NOT NOT NOT go to this surgeon or hospital. Especially if you have a latex allergy. And if you have cancer, go somewhere else also. Seems to me terminal patients get treated far differently than we should. There is no humanity nor compassion. It's evil.
