Dr. Stanley Taune Lau, MD

My son was referred to urology specialist Dr Lau by pediatrician due to inguinal hernia. During our first visit, we were told the operation needs to be done as soon as possible even though my son is only 3.5-month-old. When I requested an Ultrasound to see the size of hernia Dr. Lau initially rejected it and reiterated that inguinal hernia is not self-healable. Dr. Lau finally let us do the ultrasound after a second visit. Due to the cost of the surgery, we switched to a better insurance plan with BlueShield and visited another urologist at CHOC when my son is 4.5-month-old. The doctor at CHOC suggested to wait till he is 18-24 months old. They told us that inguinal hernia may close itself in time. If the hernia is large enough that bowel may pass, the earliest time for operation is 3.5 to 6-month-old. Since our boy’s hernia is small and only fluid can go through, we don’t need an operation right away. Overall, I don’t think Dr. Lau provide us with accurate information in this… case and took a more aggressive approach by suggesting an immediate surgery when it could potentially be avoided given time.

Dr, Stanley K Taune of Kaiser Permanente was very unprofessional during our appointment. He was not helpful at all. He was very short and condescending with his responses to our questions. I would never take my child back to see him as he has such bad people skills.
